As I read all the ways someone could possibly have done this or that thing in the document in 1973, I keep thinking the following:

Either the documents are forgeries, or they are the rube goldberg typewritten documents from hell.

Please choose one

That's not going to happen, because the Secret Service takes that kind of plot very seriously and when they investigate something they get to the bottom of it. (It's not like an "internal investigation" at CBS.) The Secret Service kicks a##, takes names, and doesn't take no for an answer. But if these Dem operatives continue this campaign of lies, fabrications, and forgeries, they are likely to destroy the Dem party forever. I can see the Dem party collapsing and then splintering into a moderate party and a wacko liberal party in a few more years.

Mrs. NavySEAL reminded me of one important thing about the IBM executive. The letters would continually become out of alignment due to the fragile nature of the key arms. Only a technician could correct the seeming floating letters.

Reminds me of a conversation I had with some friends this last weekend "All politicians lie, both sides are making up stories, I'm going to decide who to vote for on election day". The more garbage the dems throw out there - the more skeptical the average non-informed swing voter gets and isn't able to distinguish between the left and right. This whole forged document issue will come back to haunt us if there are any more Kerry docs that surface.

What if the DNC or the Kerry Campaign was the source for the Abu Grab Prison Scandals AND these forged docs? LOL

oh by the way Howlin, Buckhead and Co. - I bet the DNC is now scrambling to dig up freerepublic dirt on you guys - selectively quoting or taking jokes out of context - just like with that swiftee. They will try to prove that your real identity is assistant to Karl Rove. They want the CBS headline to be:

"Racist, anti-catholic, anti-Semitic Karl Rove Staffers conspired to .... (insert conspiracy plot here). LOL

That's why I'm suspicious that this was a deliberate plant meant to be discovered. I just can't figure out who and why. It's just too clumsy.

Well now comes the fun part tracing the docs back to their source...an investigator would start with Dan and work his way back to the source..Criminal Investigation is needed .

The originals, if typed, would show broken paper fibers. If a document is typed, there is no way it could be confused with a laser or inkjet printed document.

Danny-boy couldn't have originals cause all he'd have to do is whip them out for all to see. Wouldn't have to worry about th's, po boxes, proportional spacing, etc.

...A letter in every CBS broadcaster, to be considered when they come up for relicensing; CC the FCC at the same time as you make the deposit with the broadcaster....

You have it correct. The CBS affilliates are Rather's Shills.

There was another post today with the instructions. I can't find it now but we must attack the affilliate.

We learned from FReeping CBS heavily in 2001 they are impervious.

oh, so you're one up for the "Karl Rove did it" theory?

Hey, remember when Registered did that photo of Jane Fonda and Kerry? It was done as a parody, but was then soon picked up and distributed like it were the genuine article. Maybe they started as a hoax among some dumb ass Rats, and found their way into Rather's hands, who could not resist running with it.

In my 30+ years in the military -- no one that I know of ever took a physical early.

It technically wasn't required in your birthday month -- only before your next flight. So, if you got your schedule changed or were on leave, you could float another couple of weeks.

Ben Barnes gets my vote. (Who else would be from Texas? Molly Ivins???)

We should call him and ask. WhitePages.com has his number. (Ben Barnes, Austin Texas, its there.) I'd post it but thats probably a no-no.

I'm most interested in the way the number 4 is done on this machine. Do you know what typefaces were available for this machine?

>>Now, if I were going to make fake memos from 1972, I'd find some paper, an old office typewriter (not an electric) and type the damn thing out.

This is too obvious, and I'm worried. Why was an obvious forged document send to CBS, and by whom? I'm worried.<<<

Good God man pull yourself together.

"What I'm saying is that this document COULD have been prepared with an IBM Executive of the day. "

NO, IT CAN'T. AND HERE'S THE PROOF.

Sheesh! I'm not saying it's not a forgery. But if you argue based on things that can be refuted, you're going to lose in the end.

I could have created this document. No, it would not be identical with the word document. That's my point! I could do the superscript. I could even do the curly quotes, because they were also available as extra type bars for that machine. You see, people used it as a cheap typesetter, and IBM was happy to supply the things people needed to do that. You could buy tons of special characters, and just swap them into the typewriter when you needed them.

The point is that I could not have done a document that could be overlaid by the Word document. That would be impossible. What I could do is all the things people keep saying you couldn't do.

The only argument needed is the overlay. That would have been impossible.

I'm on your side, here. Use the right evidence, not the wrong evidence.

Mrs. NavySEAL reminded me of one important thing about the IBM executive. The letters would continually become out of alignment due to the fragile nature of the key arms.

As MineralMan also pointed out, getting such good registration across several paragraphs of type, on by now probably hundreds of printers/machines, is so improbable that it is reasonable to say it is impossible.

A similar appearance can be created, but not similarity with the precision exhibited with the forgeries.
