NASHUA - President Bush should have to explain newly released records that reveal his former Texas National Guard superior was asked to sugar coat performance records after finding Bush failed standards to be a trained pilot, Sen. John Edwards said Thursday.
I think they are reasonable and legitimate questions the White House ought to answer, Edwards said during an interview with The Telegraph.
CBS News released 1972 and 1973 memos Wednesday from Lt. Col. Jerry Killian, who had commanded the 111th Fighter Interceptor Squadron where Bush served.
In one, Killian wrote that higher-ups wanted him to sugar coat Bushs record after he got suspended from flying for failing performance standards and missing a required physical.
Killian died in 1984.

Fastinating..... and Bush just said he'd like EDWARDS to explain the memos.....
I'd like Bush to comment on Bigfoot sightings, Roswell,
and Batboy's involvment in the Iraq war.
Edwards -- a day late and a dollar short.
Maybe Edwards needs to call on Kerry to explain his anti-war activities and explain how meeting with the enemy is treason.
Edwards needs to ask KERRY to explain the memos!
Oh, he ought to address them all right- he ought to address them to "P.O. Box 34567" - which is what the memo header indicated as a military unit address.
And the Breck Girl ought to address why he didn't vounteer to do any military seevice in his entire life, even Guard duty. Kerry may want us to think Edwards was in kindergarten during the Vietnam War, but being born in 1953 made Johnny 18 years old during the Kerry testimony to Congress, and old enough to volunteer for 'Nam. Like a lot of other 18-19 year olds did.
This is getting so pathetic. This group has spent hundreds of millions of dollars against Bush.
AND THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE LEFT TO?????????????????
He should address them. By referring all questions to Dan Rather.
I think we should take Edward's charges seriously. I mean, how likely is it that an ambulance-chasing trial lawyer would bend the truth?
Screw the memos, I want to know how Bush proposes to protect us from the Loch Ness monster.
You first, Junior: What did you know about the forgeries and when did you know it?
Drink it good!
Forged documents. Forged history. Makes no difference to Democrats ... The "F" stands for forgery.
Ignore Edwards. He will find out about the forged memos soon enough.
I want Edwards to address the memos. Specifically, who's idea was it to forge documents and who knew what when.
Edwards needs to address the bogus nature of the address on the memoes...
"I'd like Bush to comment on Bigfoot sightings, Roswell, and Batboy's involvement in the Iraq war."
LOL I'd like to Bush to comment on the tooth fairy, Santa Clause, and the Easter Bunny!
Apparantly not!
"See this? That's a supercript. Pretty common today, but this is a memo from 1973. Ever see a typewriter with one of them? Neither have I. And look at this signature. Let's blow it up. Now, look over here aa a copy of Killian's real signature. A blind hog could tell the difference!
Now, I ask you, where would forgeries like this come from? Maybe an activist Democrat. Maybe based in Texas. An activist like that, why, she might forge these documents and give 'em to her Daddy the big-time newsman. I'm not making any claim, you know. I'm just supposin'"
