You'd think the WH would have taken a long time to examine them before release. You'd think that if you thought they had something to hide.
Since they don't, they didn't.

And let us assume, just for the sake of argument that IBM did make some sort of whiz bang unit back then with such capabilities. Would anyone in their right mind believe that a national guard flunky would have one in his office? It wouldn't even be the NG flunky who had this gee-whiz wonder gadget. It would probably be sitting in a cubicle outside his office that was manned by an E-3 or E-4 yeoman (sorry, I only know the Navy term for a clerical worker).

If it existed, every secretary alive today would remember it because they would have been bugging their bosses for it regularly.

It was a setup. CBS is going to blame the White House for not telling them the memos were forgeries. This is just too funny. Is it the White House's job to keep CBS from embarrasing themselves?

Ken Mehlman of BC04 on Hugh now! Seems to be repeating the old line. Kenny boy....get a pair! What? I heard this. He did great by saying he was most interested in the questions being raised and said he hoped they would all get to the bottom of it.
What, pray tell, would you have liked him to do? Jump to a hasty conclusion? Nonsense.

Maybe, just MAYBE, this will teach the Republicans they should be paying attention to Free Republic. Heck, for the humor if nothing else! Pubbies kick Dem a$$ in using humor to skewer their opponents. I'll bump that. :^)

The only thing that could even try is a Selectric Composer.

I'd guess most cars were cheaper.

Obviously, CBS have no fact checkers that ever served any time in the military.

I think it was a Clinton mole in the Pentagon, trying to sabotage Kerry/Big Media to get Pres. Bush reelected so the field is clear in '08 for you-know-whom.

"We made copies of the memos CBS gave us because we would never expect CBS to use forged documents in their reporting."
I hope they use that exact line. Plus something like, 'In continuing our policy of trying to make public all of President Bush's records we tried and will continue to try to make all records available"

Dude, these guys faking these documents were low-powered morons. They used double-spaces instead of single after sentences, they used a particular (and I might add, quite subtle) version of a font that didn't exist in 1972. TNR did exist then, but the TrueType font used on PCs were not created until fairly recently. There are slight differences in letter spacing and character pairs. I'm looking at the letter spacing between the original and the thing I typed and laughed out loud when I saw the default MSWord settings matched a typewriter from 1972!
Again, we're talking DEFAULT settings!
Finally, I measured the space between paragraphs with a pica ruler. Uh, they didn't use carriage returns. The settings were done in picas.

It's all about the kerning pairs, baby.Kernin I dig. I haven't seen a document with enough detail to observe kerning, but If you lead, I'll follow. Kerning is a subtle inhancement over proportional spacing, and is most noticable in italic or slanted fonts.

ABC news top of the hour report has Terry Moran saying ABC news gave the documents to several experts and they say the documents look like the work of a computer not a typewriter.

I am a little surprised that Karl Rove and the RNC did not check these documents out in detail. Maybe they thought CBS would not be crazy enough to release forged documents. Could be. ---Or maybe they saw a chance to expose another DemonRat 527?
