"Romantic" is not the first word that comes to mind when referring to Robert McNamara, but the 88-year-old former defense secretary is a dove when it comes to love. McNamara will wed his Italian-born sweetheart, Diana Masieri Byfield, next week in a ceremony in Italy

...one Vietnam veteran posted a bitter Internet attack, blaming McNamara for misleading President Johnson about the Gulf of Tonkin crisis....[fiancee writing] I am sure however, that you agree with me that McNamara at least had the courage to write books and make a movie (for which he was not paid) to explain the whole story."

Macnamera and Johnson were both clueless when it came to managing a war. I dispise McNamera.

I thought this guy was worm food long ago. It's amazing how the whole Vietnam thingy is returning, like a hemmoroid! This is one guy responsible for more names on that black memorial wall than [nearly, because I may be off] anyone else, other than maybe Ho Chi Minh

That moron thought he knew more about primary combat weapons than the pentagon did. He wound up sending over rifles without cleaning kits, with barrels that rusted. I wonder how many Americans wound up dead because of his stupidity.

Glad to see that Holly Coors, Stranges' former squeeze, came to her senses.

When they called McNamara one of the "Whiz Kids," I'm sure they had to be referring to urination. Neither he nor his boss knew that in a free country like ours, you have to have the people behind you before you go to war. Even FDR knew that. To these two geniuses, even something as simple as that was rocket science.

McNamara gave birth to the F-111, the M-16, and the concept of running a bombing campaign from the Oval Office.

What a loser.

McNamara, Johnson, Kerry and Ho Chi Minh --- members of the axis of evil and death for America's finest...

I'll pray McNamara meets his fate in Hell, and welcomed by a lot of the communist bastards we sent there ahead of him...

I hope McNamara's new wife is young enough to burn his stupid ass out faster than normal..

I didn't think that he could get it up after the screwing he gave us. My uncle who was a VP for Ford at the time didn't know who he hated more, at the time, McNamara or I O Caca.

Yeah, maybe that's what they meant -- little Robby liked Cheese Whiz on his animal crackers while he watched Saturday morning cartoons in the White House.

McNamara was the one Republican (yes, he was (is) a nominal Republican) that Barry Goldwater attacked by name: said the defense secretary of the 1960s was wrong on nearly every major issue before his department.

Burn him out? Heh heh heh, I hope she's hotter than hell and cuts him off as soon as they're wed. That'll be quicker. ;-)

My favorite McNamara quote from the mid/late 60s, when I was drafted, was, in answer to a reporter's question on how the Vietnam War was going:
"No useful purpose can be served by speculation on
remote contingencies"
A cold-blooded response that might have come from a
computer, or a CEO of Ford Motors, talking about a
breakdown of the assembly line.

McNamara was a FMC whiz Kid. His understanding of war was body count. He thought if you kill more of them than they of you, then you win.
