Do you know statistics, which party voters mostly support that idea? Or which party is more popular in the east and which on the west. It will help me to understand this situation.
Btw I think that any society no matter how good live they have will never be fully satisfy. Although this time situation is very strange, cause two separate German countries will never such strong as one united country.

The west germans footed the bill, and the east germans are "no better off financially". It all comes down to money, apparently.

I always thought the reunification of Germany was done way too quickly. The "Wall of the Mind" is going to exist for several generations, and is going to drag both sides of Germany down with it.

Only 25% and 13% of the west and east (respectively) hate each other?
Sounds pretty good to me, considering what a piece of junk East Germany was when they re-unified.

So?? This means that FOUR Germans to every one DON'T want the Berlin Wall back. The math isn't hard here. In fact, this is as much "news" as those stories about one American veteran of the war on terror supporting Kerry, out of millions of veterans, both present and retired, who don't.

Why should this be a problem? The 12% of easterners who want out should just build a wall around themselves and sit there. I'm sure the rest of Germany would be happy to let them alone.
Wonderful idea for socialists generally, as a matter of fact ....

You can't please all the people all the time.
They could poll here in America and ask if people want their taxes reduced and 10% would probably answer no.

Wonder if those folks are the ones who will lose their American military base income now that the Cold War is over and we are moving them.

In other news, 1 out of 5 Germans have economically depressed construction related jobs or businesses involving the use of concrete and barbed wire. 3 of the 5 "Germans" are actually arab immigrants. The last remaining German lives in a villa in Argentina. Film at eleven.

Sounds like the Germans, on average, are more sane than Americans. After all, almost half of our electorate wants John Kerry for president.
