That type of shotgun has been banned since 1935 ( think that date is correct), anyway a looong time.
A shotgun must have a barrel at least 18" long and an overall length of 26".
A barrel shorter than 18' is what Ruby Ridge and Randy Waever was all about.

The right shots appear to be an OU type but the left shots look to be with a Model 1100 style. no pistol grip though...

That's the over/under, I think. The photos have two different weapons. On the left is the "gift" - on the right are some pics from shooting clays a few days ago.
The "gift" has been id'd as a Berreta auto. A bunch of folks are calling this a pistol grip - if that's what it is, then every shotgun I own has a pistol grip. Don't think I've seen a shotgun with a straight stock. At least not recently.

I don't know much about guns.....but this thread has been a blast to read. I am learning all sorts of things. I am hopeful that Kerry did pull a blooper.
Will his campaign retract their statement and admit this is a pistol grip gun?

Thanks for the information about the Maine gun store and thanks to all of you who did the research to prove that Drudge was right!

It looks like that's what he's shooting. It is the penultimate "sporting arm", used for hunting birds and shooting skeet. Fancy examples are still made even in countries like England where most gun ownership is banned. This is the one gun that rich liberal gun banners are always pictured with.Looks like a trustworthy opinion is needed here? Is this sporting arm or pistol grip?

"There are far more serious errors on sKerry's part for us to focus on petty things such as this"NOTHING is more serious than the attempts of the liberals and moderates to strip us of our GOD-given rights.

I've got an original Thomas Jefferson Charleville on my wall right now in excellent working condition.
Many here on FR could teach John "V" Kerry something about firearms with it at 100 yards or so.
It will put a real hole in his agendas.

FWIW....some of the Religion of Peace perps in Russia used Pistol Grips....but Mr. Kerry has not had much to say about that, has he???

I heard about this on Rush's show. Rush also mentioned that Kerry didn't fill out the required background check paperwork before accepting the gun.
S'okay, only "criminals" violate gun laws.

"What do you want to bet that the Kerry campaing bought the shot gun and selected someone to present it to him."
I'd absolutely count on it. How else could you get a weapon into an event with a candidate for the presidency? Even before 9/11, I'm sure that'd be impossible. That means that he not only knew he'd be presented with the weapon in advance, but he must have had the time to plan his remark. That whole thing about 'not being able to bring it to the debate' is not only vile, but premeditated. That makes it even worse.

I think Drudge is off the target with this one No he's right. The wording of the the Bill Kerry sponsered would have banned any semi-auto with a "pistol grip" as defined as "The term 'pistol grip' means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip."]
The intent was to plug the "pistol-grip loophole" and ban all guns with stocks that would like real pistol grips "facilitates firing from the hip, allowing the shooter to spray-fire the weapon. " (Yeah I know, but take it up with Sarah Brady, It's her theory), not just real pistol-grips.
From the way Kerry is grasping the stock it's a "pistol grip" within the meaning of the Act.

The Drudge pictures actually show two guns upon closer look. One is a Remmington 1100 5 shot semi-auto, which under this interpretation would be illegal.

The ban was more toward these kinds of shotguns: Yeah, that's what gun-grabbers say initially.

Yep! Definately two shotguns, the over and under I noticed and the semi-auto. The SA would be banned. Drudge was right!
