The pounding Kerry has been taking from the Swift Boat Veterans over his Vietnam record, and his concomitant poll plunge, is literally driving his liberal supporters crazy.
The evidence was at hand on last evening's Fox Media Watch (the rebroadcast of which I'm watching this morning at 6:30-7 AM EDT).
In all my years of watching the show, I cannot recall the resident liberals - Jane Hall (a woman of a certain age), and the small-but-perfeectly formed Neal Gabler - so absolutely beside themselves.
So frenzied was Gabler that you almost imagined the men in white suits would have to make an appearance before Gabler hurt someone or himself. He was apoplectic at the notion that the panel was discussing the merits of the issue at all, declaring that this just played into Karl Rove's diabolical plot. He simply wanted to declare that the allegations were false, a fraud, etc. and would brook no debate.
Biting the Fox paw that feeds her, Jane Hall blamed "the cable news networks" for perpetuating the story. Both the libs agreed that it was wrong of the media to present both sides of the story, since in their view there is only one side - all the Swift Boat Vets for Truth are lying.
When Cal Thomas attempted to cite the statement by William L. Schachte Jr., a retired rear admiral, to the effect that he was on the same small boat as Kerry but did not witness any enemy fire during the event for which Kerry received his first Purple Heart, Gabler totally lost it. He screamed and cut Cal off, determined that there would be no more discussion of the issue.
Never have I seen the libs in such blind panic and fury. They know that Kerry's lies about his record have come home to roost and will ultimately cost him the election. It was glorious!
They're only following the lead of their Party masters. Yeaaaargh!!!! Susan Ostrich was the latest to lose it last night. I love the sound of crying liberals in the morning. It sounds like...victory.
I've been thinking about that. I'd say the answer is that Kerry has to calm down and decide to ignore the allegations and get back to his boring-but-reassuring patter about his plans for the economy, health care, etc., while criticizing W's handling of the economy and the war in Iraq. It might not seem like much of a tactic but I sincerely think it's his only hope.

Take a look at these three short video clips, especially the last one. You will walk away with a heavy heart.
I'd shell out ELEPHANT bucks to actually watch that happening, on live television. :)
You can always tell when the liberal media is losing badly because the mask comes off and they stop even trying to pretend they are unbiased. I saw the program and I was dumbfounded by the way Gabler was practically foaming at the mouth trying control the discussion. Thomas rolled over, too, and I was surprised. He's usually a lot more aggressive.
The Swiftboat vets are lying! The Swiftboat vets are lying!
Still at 7; but don't get upset because you don't see it; it's the usual pablum, only the liberals are REALLY REALLY torqued.
Bob Novak was rolling his eyes last night when Al Hunt said he believed Kerry's two paid flacks instead of Schachte.
Novak said he had talked to the two guys who say that they were in the boat with Kerry and that Schachte wasn't in the boat -- Novak said that those guys told HIM that Schachte WAS in the boat.
Al Hunt damn near died on the spot, saying he had talked to them that very day and they told him that Schachte wasn't in the boat.
I used to watch Fox News Watch, but that whole panel is so snoddy and arrogant that they've become unwatchable.
I did see about 20 seconds of Gabler's temper tantram last evening and again this morning before turning the channel.
Every time Al Hunt's name comes up, I always think about his wife, Judy Woodruff. I get the impression that Al sticks to his hard liberal line as a way of staying in Judy's good graces.
bump for later
My word! If the lefties are imploding now, can you imagine the scenes across the nation when W wins by a landslide in November?
Well in New Jersey they can . . .
:)
LOL - too true.
I am sorry I missed Hunt losing it. I really despise him.
Hey, here's a thought. What if, in addition to those Swift Boat ads, there is panic because the Justice Department has uncovered information tying the Kerry campaign directly to the leak of Valerie Plame's name and/or Sandy Berger's classified pilfering of documents?
Probably not, but I like to fantasize about such things.
Is that Hillary you can make out in the background, dancing in glee?
