ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) Former Vice President Al Gore was cited for speeding as he drove a rented car to visit family on the coast, authorities said.
Gore, who was alone, was issued a $141 ticket for driving 75 miles per hour on Highway 26 in the northwest corner of the state, police said. The speed limit is 55.
Gore was issued the ticket on Aug. 3 at 12:37 p.m., said Lt. Dale Rutledge, spokesman for the Oregon State Police.
The trooper who stopped Gore did not recognize him until he furnished his license, Sgt. Andrew Merila told KATU-TV.
The trooper said Gore, who carried Oregon when he ran for president in 2000, was polite throughout the encounter.
Gore has until December to decide whether to fight the ticket.
A phone message left after hours at Gore's office in Tennessee was not immediately returned.
Wastin' energy.
His lawyers have researched it, and there is no controlling legal speed limit in that area.
Only $141?
He would have paid $350 in NY :)
He had had too much iced tea and really needed to get to a restroom.
Did you know he invented the internet.......heheheheh
Well...credit to Gore who apparently didn't try to pull a Janklow with a "do you know who I am?"
Tom Daschle is deeply saddened (and deeply confused)
June 8, 2001:
Tom Daschle, Senate Majority Leader, says
of the Missile Defense program "This isn't rocket science here"
"Well...you...see...officer,...I...was...running...low...on...gas...and...I...was...tryyying...to...get...to...a...gas...station...before...I...ran...out."
Been there -- Done that!! LOL!
If $35,000 CASH wasn't stolen from him in Italy, he could have paid it on the spot.
Alas any speed above the basic speed limit of 55 (unless higher limits are posted) is controlling. Below 55, the posted limits are "suggestions" and one can argue that a higher speed on a certain section of the road was "safe." There is "no" defense however above 55. LOL. God made speed control mechanisms on cars for a reason. I use mine a lot. I set it at about 3 miles per hour above the speed limit. I haven't got a ticket in 30 years.
Next thing you know he'll be doing coke and hosting a reality TV show.
What kind of SUV did he rent?
Well...credit to Gore who apparently didn't try to pull a Janklow with a "do you know who I am?"
You know J F'ing Kerry is a waste of oxygen when he makes Albert Gore look good.
Maybe he'll give a speech and say he invented rental cars that go 75 MPH.
Al who?
. I hate Cops.sorry
Most of them are serious assholes....How could anyone ticket the former Vice president, elected president and senator who gave such service to this country, unless they were a brainless Right Winger..Add cop in the mix and it just gets worse...
From DU. Dems didn't like the Ark. troopers either.
