On the first Saturday of every month, the short North area of Columbus, Ohio, puts on Gallery Hop. The stores, mostly art galleries, stay open late and the entertainment district draws a large crowd. The short North, is generally liberal and a Kerry stronghold.
I went to the 8/7/04 edition for some non politcal amusement, and then I saw about 10 Kerry supporters working 3 intersections, handing out Kerry buttons and literature.
I decided that I could not let this go unchallenged. I walked back to my car and got my anti Kerry sign out and staked out an intersection across the street from the Kerry people. My sign read "John Kerry was not a leader in the US Senate. Kerry is not fit to lead this country."
For the next 3 hours, I engaged the public, stating my case against Kerry and for Bush. I had a lot of Kerry supporters voicing their disapproval, and I got the middle finger 10-12 times. But I also had about 15 people wanting to shake my hand. There was also a lot of thumbs up from Bush supporters, and a lot of expressions of gratitude that I was there in a Kerry district. The overall reaction was generally about 50-50, which for this area, is very good.
However, one Bush supporter in particular said, "It is about time you guys did something". This sentiment was also expressed by numerous others.
The Bush campaign and Karl Rove need to take notice that the ground campaign (retail politics) is just as important as the air campaign (mass media politics).
Freepers also need to be out there, taking chances and saying the things that need to be said.
I got the same reaction at a Bush Cheney stick-a-thon. You stand on a busy street with signs and free bumper stickers. I was asked several times "where have you guys been?"
up in clintonville there is a street just north of w. broadway (there is a 5/3 and wendy's on the corner, i cant remember the name) but if you get the chance, go east to indianola on it...every other house has a sign in the front yard, pretty much alternating between the two parties, until you get to this house that has a HUGE banner about supporting "real leaders" B/C and supporting our troops. i just wanted to knock on their door and thank them for having the cajones to put that up! check it out!
You need to rent a room in Ohio or Florida for this election. Don't waste your vote any more--if you have friends in the same boat, Florida residency is insanely easy to establish and completely legal. Think of all the liberal NY snowbirds that vote there instead of in NY state and fubar Florida's conservative voters. Start now.
Honestly, in Florida, lots of people are scared to even put out a sign or put a bumper sticker on their cars. The f'in RATS, even in rural Florida where Bush is king, scrape cars and donut lawns.
If the police were remotely conservative they'd plaster Bush stickers on cars and lurk in mall lots waiting for the little shits, and get them on civil rights violations instead of minor vandalism charges. I'm sick of seeing their goonish behavior go unpunished.
The audience listened in disbelief as the President repeated his error at least a dozen times, before realizing that he had used the word 'feces' when he meant to say 'fetus'.
I received the above mass mailing from a well popular musician. I hit my 'reply all' button and send a brief note and a couple of sourced links proving the story was an urban legend.
Now this guy's entire mailing list know that the sender is not a credible source.
Nice work.
Good one!! ;^D
I went down to Bush HQ in the brewery district to complain. They told me they were not allowed to mass produce yard signs until after the convention. If you can't find a number for HQ in the phone book, I can freepmail it to you if you want to volunteer.
Yes, this was true. [The named have been changed to protect the innocent.....appologies to Dragnet.]
I had a new name for the Kerry/Edwards booth. When I went by I just yelled out, "Welcome to Never, Neverland."
We all know that Kerry is in his own fantasy world.
I expect the Kerry people to be out on Sat. Sept. 3 at gallery hop and the greek festival.
I will be there too. Anyone want to join me ?
We don't need to wait for the 'Bush Campaign' to do it! They can't be everywhere, and don't know the opportunities we can identify in our own hometowns! WE ARE the Bush Campaign! We need to be his foot soldiers out here in the hustings!!
I drive through UA three or four times a week and see a load of "UA For Kerry" signs. That disturbs me.
The Franklin County GOP has left us out to hang in the wind.
**"It is about time you guys did something" ***
Why "you guys" ?? Why not THAT "Bush supporter" ??
YOU showed initiative, but why does that "Bush supporter" assume it's up to some one else ??
That's what our local county HQ told us as well. But now all bet's are off, so we need to get the Bush/Cheney signs out there NOW!
for the next Old Town event .. call Bush's National HQ in Arlington beforehand and set up your OWN table
Once you get the B/C signs up, beware that the rats will knock them over, post theirs in front, or simply take them. They did it here all over town in 2000, private property did not stop them.
AMEN! AMEN! AMEN!
