Leno Bush Bashings

Posted on 08/05/2004 9:00:45 PM PDT by inchworm

I used to think Jay Leno was pretty unbiased becaue he always seemed to hand it out evenly to both sides. This year we face a presidential election and Leno has been worse than ever in his shows. He usually only makes 1-2 jokes per day about Kerry and they're usually only just about the size of his head. Rather with Bush, he frequently shows taped bumblings, ridicules his policy, and comments that infer Bush is stupid and untruthful. Screw Leno. Screw his program. I'm dome watching it. I can see through his bias programming. Liberal Lettermen and Liberal Leno are now the same person.

I just watched Leno and he was telling jokes about the Kerrys eating country club food after pretending to eat at Wendy's. Kevin Eubanks was stunned. He hadn't heard the story (as I suspect most of the audience had not).

Leno also showed the Kerry in the Teletubby suit on one of his monologues a couple weeks back.

This is where Leno is useful - these stories get play even though they are ignored by the mainstream media. He is quicker to pounce on Bush, of course and I suspect that he will ignore the Swift Boat Vets story for as long as he can (even though he did numerous jokes on Bush being "AWOL" from the National Guard).

However, people get a lot of information from Leno that they don't get from the Establishment Media. The number of "moderates and independents" who heard the Wendy's story probably just quadrupled (and they'll be talking at the water cooler tomorrow).

Carson was a big Democrat donor.

Time passed him by.

Johnny: "Evel Kneviel has a close call the other day. His bike went way over to the right during his last stunt...."

Audience: "How far right was it?"

Johnny: "It was so far right that it voted for Pat Buchannan on purpose....Broward County Style."

Audience: (laughs)

Johnny: "That is RIGHT!"

Johnny Carson became a friend on TV. He was a class act.

There are some good phrases and comparisons that may have lept from FR to the public arena.

Posting to FR sure has improved my response time (both typing and the quick wit).

Some of the "winners" from Caption This threads could easily be used on Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update, The Daily Show, Dennis Miller, or countless other shows that use wire photos.

By the way, he is very ticklesome, especially when his straight man, Kevin Eubanks I believe his name is, begins to laugh at the stuff that isn't funny. It reminds me of the old Ed McMahan giggling at the bits that Carson messed up.

The previous straight man/bandleader didn't like being made the butt of gentle ribbing or having to laugh at material that bombed.

Ed drank on/before the show (the most notable example was when he went on the air completely bombed and kept interupting Johnny).

Supposedly Leno TRIES to be even handed relative to politics; however, making 5 seriously disparaging remarks about Bush or Cheney, offset by one lame comment about Kerry flip flops, followed by a comment on Clinton's sexual proclivities, does not equate to what I consider unbiased. And I have watched the same formula for months since Kerry was the obvious democratic nominee - and I have finally had enough - so, in what I consider to be the ultimate "dis" of a TV show nowadays - I have removed the Leno Show from my Tivo's "Season Pass" listing.

Leno and Kerry are the same person. Look at them. Aside from TV, where special effects are easy, have you ever seen them together?

I've said it before -- Bush is the worst Presidential speaker in the history of recorded sound . . .

Have you never heard the Peanut President?????? Bush is absolutely eloquent when compared with cartbilly.

Jimmy Carter was boring and uninspiring. So was Gerald Ford. But neither tripped over words or paused in the wrong places the way that W does.

This is a minor complaint. GWB is already a better President than either of the aforementioned. And as I have said in this thread, his speech is improving.

I just heard Tammy Bruce make a good point on the radio tonight in L.A. She said, take Leno's statement and substitute "Jew" or "African American" or "Homosexual" in his statement for "Republican" or "Conservative." Can you imagine him being so vocal and proud he would not hire a Jew or allow a Jew to write a joke? My God ... this is like 1930's Germany. This is outrageous! I will NEVER watch the Tonight Show again ever ... and I hope he really takes a lot of heat for his bigotry and prejudice.
