I used to think Jay Leno was pretty unbiased becaue he always seemed to hand it out evenly to both sides. This year we face a presidential election and Leno has been worse than ever in his shows. He usually only makes 1-2 jokes per day about Kerry and they're usually only just about the size of his head. Rather with Bush, he frequently shows taped bumblings, ridicules his policy, and comments that infer Bush is stupid and untruthful. Screw Leno. Screw his program. I'm dome watching it. I can see through his bias programming. Liberal Lettermen and Liberal Leno are now the same person.
well Bush is the incumbent. Leno was alot harder on Clinton than he was on Dole also. I generally don't watch those shows anymore cuz i think theyre a waste of time, but I dont think leno is so bad. He had a REALLY BRUTAL Kerry impersonation on last night.
The incumbent always gets more ribbing than the challenger. I don't think that it reflects a political bias of any sort on the part of Leno, especially since most of his viewers are solidly middle-America.
I watch Leno's monologue every night. He has been extremely biased, lately. You can count on at least one "George Bush is a stupid idiot" joke every night.
Leno doesn't bother me as much as Letterman. Dave's show is now nothing but Bush bashing.
I just don't watch either of them anymore.
Is Leno still on TV?
Consider: if one has to produce jokes on order, day in and day out, one will run out of steam in no time. (Look at "Dilbert" cartoon for an example, if you will). Thus there is support staff - people who write up all these jokes, or at least most of them, for the delivery by the talking head. The fault, IMHO, lies squarely with them.
I haven't watched the Tonight Show since Johnny Carson retired.
I've never once watched Jay Leon. Jay Neon. Uh, Nay Jeno. Whoever that guy is. Never watched him. Never.
jay supports Arhnold and GWB, you betcha
Kerry was absolutely skewered (to the point of having him outwitted by a heckler Dubya four times) on last night's Tonight Show.
The fact is that Dubya is an easy guy to make fun of. So is Kerry. It's all good.
Hey, I don't watch every night but when (2-3 x/ week) I do Leno hits Bush on every front, and then only makes a lame joke or two about the size of Kerry's head. Just like he did tonight.
Push one of those arrow buttons on the remote, and he goes away!
I wish you could see the number they did on Kerry last nite - it wa an impersonator and he really had the act down!
PS - I miss Johnny!
What irks me is when Leno and Letterman make too much fun of the terrorist threat, which is very real. Tonight Leno makes fun of 4 year old threats, but what if we ignored them and the Prudential building came down and thousands died? Sure it is great to get up-to-date info on terrorists, but in real life you work with what you've got.
Who counts "He made fun of Kerry only once and Bush 3 times?" Geesh... Even Hume and friends tonight laughed at the "Hi, I am George W. Bush and I approved this ad"(Nader ad).
I don't know...Leno has been pretty funny with the Kerry at Nasa in the bunny suit pictures. Also the "love story" of the Johns.
LOL
I agree, he goes overboard on the Bush is stupid jokes, but then, Leno seems a little more stupid than he thinks he is.
Letterman, whom I do watch, is becoming just as intolerable. I didn't watch when Bill Clinton was on the show last week -- I like my low blood pressure and my TV to much to risk either one. Your description of the Leno show fits Letterman like a glove as well, if not better; the slams on Kerry are about his horse-face, his touchiness with Edwards and, of course, Teresa (aka 'Ratwoman). The nightly bits about Bush's verbal stumblings are par for the course for a late-night funnyman (I've said it before -- Bush is the worst Presidential speaker in the history of recorded sound), but ever since the false CNN story about the White House allegedly accusing Letterman of doctoring a video clip of Bush, the punch lines have been about how stupid Bush is, mischaracterizing Bush Admin statements about WMDs, and suggesting that oil was the motivation for war in Iraq. It seems that Letterman refuses to believe that the CNN's retraction was genuine, and somehow, the White House called him a liar.
I do think he has been a little bit biased towards Bush this year. Basically the same stupid or in bed with big business themes each night. He has done some good stuff on Kerry and others though. Yes, the impersonator segment last night was hilarious. The guy had Kerry down pat. And they had a Bush inpersontator off camera taunting the Kerry impersonator. Very original and pretty good.
I have started watching Jimmy Kimmel, although he seems to be pretty liberal. But at least he has some fresh stuff.
