The emergency generator exists as backup to commercial power. The equipment is expected to operate non-stop on the batteries. If the problem occurred at a point between the batteries and the equipment, it would necessitate killing power in a fashion independent of how the batteries are charged. Assuming the gate surveillance and control is run off the -48V supply, it would explain why the FD would have to crash the gate instead of using the electronic control systems.

It claimed the video was taken in recent weeks. It is unclear whether the tape was shot before or after the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.

Cal, I have heard 2 stories about this since I first saw the vids this past Monday. When I first saw the vids and links, it was said that day or the next that it was a setup for NEIN. I plunged on regardless, having way too many up-close and personal intrigues of my own to worry about! If it truly was a set-up, I wouldn't know. I had way too much more fun looking at the new jakel pic which was more interesting to me than the video.
The other answer is that the vid and some of the frames that showed the hex code was passed on to LEO. And LEO requested that the stills and story be removed. That makes sense too.
Does anyone know the real reason? Was it a set-up or a LEO request?

Osama attends son's wedding
DOHA, Jan 10: The son of Osama bin Laden, who is on Washington's most wanted list, married the daughter of Egyptian Abu Hafs al-Masri, Osama's right-hand man, in Kandahar on Tuesday.
Qatar's Al-Jazeera television showed the Saudi millionaire beaming with pride at the wedding.
The channel said Afghan officials and Arab activists attended Ahmad bin Laden's wedding.
Ahmad and his bride were both born in Pakistan at a time when their parents fought the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan during the 1980s.
The father, in white Arab headdress, and son were seated next to each other on carpets and smiling as they embraced wellwishers in the footage.
Among them was Ayman al-Zawahiri, an aide of Bin Laden and head of the Egyptian group Al-Jihad, which was linked to the Oct 1981 assassination of president Anwar Sadat.
Zawahiri is wanted both in Egypt and the United States.
The televised wedding underlined the refusal of the Taliban to hand Bin Laden over to the United States, where he is wanted for 1998 bombings of two US embassies in East Africa that cost more than 220 lives.-AFP
That's the wedding story ok, but it was Ahmad, not Saad getting married.

'Rogue waves' reported by mariners get scientific backing

PARIS (AFP) - European satellites have given confirmation to terrified mariners who describe seeing freak waves as tall as 10-storey buildings, the European Space Agency (ESA) said.
"Rogue waves" have been the anecdotal cause behind scores of sinkings of vessels as large as container ships and supertankers over the past two decades.
But evidence to support this has been sketchy, and many marine scientists have clung to statistical models that say monstrous deviations from the normal sea state only occur once every thousand years.
