When you have a -48V power supply that can supply nearly 5,000 amps, you must be very careful around the power bus. The bus is usually made from 6 to 8 plates of laminated aluminum to afford sufficient stiffness. When the power goes on, the sudden rush of current causes a strong magnetic field that would whip a flexible conductor around. There is enough current to vaporize a typical steel crescent wrench if dropped across the bus.
The smoke could have come from a piece of electronic equipment that was improperly connected to the power or a shorted power supply cable. The latter case might have necessitated an immediate power shut off to avoid escalation into an actual fire.
The worse is if it was secret service control, dying people couldn't get through to 911, too much of a coinkydink to me it happened while he was speaking just 30 min outside the city,wonder if the 911 center covers Glenview, I'd think not

My Sister used to work at the VA in surgical intensive care, and she was always apprised of these sorts of things. Emergency drills... notifications of what bizarre diseases to be alert for (symptoms, etc.)... notifications of "suggested" vaccinations, etc.
Unfortunately, she stopped working there a year ago, so I don't hear about this stuff now.

Driving to work this morning, I hoped in the car, started it up, checked the clock and it was 9:11.
Doing a restore this evening, the process called tape 911.
That's it. I'm going home and hiding under the bed. LOL!
See, that is the odd thing. We are in a target area, my husband AND his colleagues have never received any notifications, procedurial changes, nada. He is on call to 2 separate hospitals and one of them is a State.

Somehow I suspect this will get added to the "we don't ever get all of the details" list... (the spill)
In the meantime, I suspect our local news will now be covering the fire we've got very much near where I work, and pretty close to home,and very much in a residential area...they've already broken in once about it (to regular programming)...
I'll post when/if I can actually find anything about the spill, but I'm watching the other, too.
Will report back if they say anything useful (or even insinuate that the spill looks questionable for any reason...right now sounds like there are lots of questions about it is the most they'll say)
