It started with one first class passenger asking a soldier what seat he was sitting in, as he passed by in the airplane's isle. The soldier mentioned a seat in the back, but the passenger in 1st class told him no, you're taking MY seat.
Actually, America has *always* been this good, you just never hear about it.
Back in the day, I had my uncle pass away suddenly - so I hit the local airport (Anchorage) and told the counter clerk I needed a FTS flight. I showed my military Id and credit card, told him cost was secondary, just need a seat on the First Thing Smoking.
He 'found' a reservation from two weeks earlier, set up my return trip and got me the best price he could find.
Had I taken an extra day or two, I could have worked this out thru the system - what he got me was back in time for the funeral....and I fly that airline as first choice anytime I go Outside.
Thanks for following up... See if you can get more radio or TV personalities to herald this. It's more good news we need to flood the airways with!
oh, and I heard you on the radio with (hugh hewitt?) the other day. great job!
I like you already.
I am suspicious for three reasons: no date is given for the incident. No Airline is specifically mentioned. No Flight number.
All of these details would be intimately familiar for someone who experienced the incident first hand.
Again, no date, no Airline name, no departure airport and no Flight number.
We've always loved ken5050 here @ FR. :-)
Hugh is a great American!
Now I see what happened. NordP put up a post saying that it came from FOX4. When I called the San Diego station, they said that they got it from FOX in Chicago. I made the wrong assumption that FOX4 was in Chicago.
I was bumming around Las Vegas the other day and bumped into 3 marines and a member of the Navy in the new extension outside of Cesars Palace. I saluted them and they saluted back and were very appreciative! Nice fellas, and ut's the least I could do.
Thanks for sharing this story! It immediately brought tears to my eyes! I am so proud of our soldiers. They have sacrificed so much to protect us! This story has encouraged me to do more to show my support for our wonderful soldiers. God Bless America!!!
I wish that all of the airlines were run like Midwest.
Personally, while I like the cookies, they don't really matter to me. I can bring my own snacks on the plane if I need to. What I really like is the fact that every time I've dealt with employees of Midwest Airlines, they've been courteous and helpful. And the fact that their planes are set up with 2x2 seating in VERY comfortable seating is a big help too.
It just seems like a well run airline, and the employees seem to be happy working there. They do charge a bit more, but as I said before, the additional cost is worth it. I just wish that their hub wasn't in Milwaukee! I'd love to be able to fly directly out of KC to most of their destinations, but then, they've got one of the only non-stop flights to NY from KC.

I know that a couple of airlines have done me a 'favor' or two over the last many months. And not all have been US flag carriers!
that is the type of people I joined to protect, as I am sure that those two boys back from Iraq did too... There are still good people in this world.. :)
Thanks. The feeling's mutual.
Let me add my story here. I came home from Bosnia on September 29th, 2001. We had a layover in Shannon, Ireland. I was in BDUs with the US flag patch, standing in the duty free shop looking at towels (we weren't allowed to drink til we got back to the States) when an older gentleman came up to me and handed me two twenty-mark notes. I asked why, and with tears in his eyes, he said, "I am from Switzerland. My country would never send our boys to do what you do, what needs to be done."
Kindness of strangers, indeed.
This probably isn't the thread to be skeptical on, but I have to wonder if years from now there won't be some 5,000 soldiers who participated in the capture of Saddam. Sort of like Woodstock, if you judge by everyone who says they were there, there must have been about 3 million in attendance.
I thought about that, but he did appear to have been in Iraq from what I saw. I did not really care if he actually had a part in the capture or was just there, I would rather err on the side of generosity. The only thing I can lose is $25 if he is a liar. If not, then I have done something good.
But, in this era of a politicized, leftist media, they will roll their eyes at a story like this and make room for yet another long drawn out, contrived story about Abu Graihb.
Paging Paul Harvey... Paul Harvey.
