To: an amused spectator

Thanks. The feeling's mutual.

Let me add my story here. I came home from Bosnia on September 29th, 2001. We had a layover in Shannon, Ireland. I was in BDUs with the US flag patch, standing in the duty free shop looking at towels (we weren't allowed to drink til we got back to the States) when an older gentleman came up to me and handed me two twenty-mark notes. I asked why, and with tears in his eyes, he said, "I am from Switzerland. My country would never send our boys to do what you do, what needs to be done."

Kindness of strangers, indeed.
