LUCKY THREAD NUMBER:
HOMELAND INSECURITY
Backup electrical systems failed to kick in
A mysterious power failure at Logan Airport that delayed dozens of flights for more than five hours has still not been explained six days later.
Airport officials insist airline security was not compromised during the blackout Monday at Logan International's Terminal E, but backup electrical systems failed to kick in as they are programmed under such circumstances.

The great thing about standards is that there are so many. Which one to choose?
I thought standards chose us, not the other way around.
So I wonder what is up with the other 2 planes.
There are 2 different stories being reported. One by fire officials, and one by airport officials.
Gee, which one to believe......
They said it was probably food related. I do not
think that food containing bacteria will make people
pass out.
Two posters are claiming that SW doesn't offer food on their flights.
Is it "blanc" or is it "blanco"?
One's Spanish, one's Italian I believe.
Wow. Thanks for the translation.
Sorry I'm just now responding. I've had trouble accessing FR, and things are moving EXTREMELY S-L-O-W, or I'm getting 404 errors. Anyone else experiencing this or is just my server?
Yeah, it's pretty fishy thus far...
I hate breaking news at midnight, information is very slow in coming.
They are saying on the other thread that they only serve pre-packaged food on those flights. The offical-possible explanation sounds fishy to me. They are just throwing out something to satisfy the public. As someone else said...I wonder if there were any middle eastern musicians on board.
There have been several of these aircraft-fumes type stories in recent days.
Food containing poison could cause the problem. Perhaps this is tainted snacks inserted along with good ones. The food service trucks are an easy target. The food and drinks tend to be pre-packaged, but the ice cubes are packaged in loose bags.
I would say that only food that was deliberatly posined could cause such a quick reation. I don't think any natural posioning could do it.
OPEC meeting in Vienna on July 21, 2004, is another cancelation with no good explanation:
Update 3: Thursday's Commodities Roundup

As a result, the statement added, OPEC members see no need to meet July 21 as they had planned but will continue to monitor market conditions and meet again if necessary. It was the first time in 10 years that OPEC canceled an official meeting. (snipped)

I ws just fixin to tell you Southwest doesn't serve
food. Only peanuts and drinks. Being from Texas,
I have flown Southwest several times. I don't think
people are going to pass out on packaged peanuts.
The thermo-stabile toxin from Staph aureus will have you making sidewalk pizzas within 20 minutes after ingestion. It's a common problem in foods such as potato salad that start warm and are inadequately cooled before the Staph aureus on the hands of the food prep staff contaminate them. Heating doesn't destroy that toxin. The neurotoxin from Clostridium botulinum acts quickly as well. It can be destroyed by heating.

Fire officials say ten people have been
overcome by fumes aboard a plane that sat on the runway Thursday night at BWI.
Officials told a local television station that four people were transported from the scene in critical condition, and six others were in serious condition.
Others aboard the plane reportedly complained of upset stomach and lightheadedness.
Fire crews from Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore counties were on the scene Thursday night as well.
The plane reportedly was a Southwest Airlines flight from Houston that arrived around 10:45 pm with 125 people aboard.

Chemical something or other. I'm unaware of any bio that acts that quickly.

I had dinner with a guy some years ago - he had the shrimp - got red faced couldn't breathe and droped like a stone to the floor. Out cold after a couple of bites.
At the ER some time later (we thot it was his heart) the MD told us it was the shrimp. And that if it ever happened again to leave him prone as passing out and going prone was natures way to get more O2 to the brain asap.
placemark.
A chemical scenbario is a much easier "sell" at that point. A toxim will settle down onto ferrours metal surfaces and take on the characteristics of being "persistent." This means it will adhere to a metal surface and remain lethal on the surface until removed by deliberate DE-CON protocalls or by a good rainstorm.
