Capitola drafting beach-smoking ban
By RAMONA TURNER
Sentinel staff writer
CAPITOLA The City Council has asked staff to draft a proposal that would lead to an ordinance prohibiting smoking at Capitola Main Beach and on the wharf.
At Thursday nights council meeting, members pointed out that cigarette butts are not biodegradable and pose a significant health and environmental hazard.
"I went down to the beach on Fathers Day and saw a toddler sitting in the sand and pick up a cigarette butt and put it in their mouth," Councilman Bruce Arthur said.
Part of the ordinance could include lining the Esplanade with ashtrays, and working with owners to provide ashtrays outside Village-area restaurants.
While some council members expressed concern on how the ordinance would be enforced, Arthur said nonsmokers would help enforce it because they know the dangers of second-hand smoke.
Of course, a "realistically absurd" fine could help, too, he said.
Toddlers would eat bird cr** if it is in front of them!!!! Kill all the birds!!!!!
Is that Capitola or Crapitola?
My mother lives in Capitola and has for years. While I have always enjoyed visiting the village, I could never live there. I have come close to beating the $hit out of a few of these liberal punks who like to get into other people's business and assert their rights. The only reason I didn't was that they were all pretty fast runners and were intelligent enough to recognize the danger inherent in a big Texas with fire in his eyes. Good thing, too, or I would probably still be in jail out there. I am older and somewhat wiser now, so I let their nonsense roll off my back and keep my visits short.
Hey Brucey, old buddy, old pal, It could have been a rubber condom.
Consider the kid lucky.
Crapitola right next to Insanity Cruz. Lived there for 16 years.
Typical Liberal clymer thought pattern....
Does that mean the City Council is authorizing me to deck each and every obnoxious drunken/drugged teenager with a foul mouth that disturbs my peace and quiet at the beach?
It appears that too many morons from Santa Cruz have moved to Capitola -- after they destroyed Santa Cruz with their Marxist governance..
Semper Fi
nonsmokers would help enforce it
Now they will have everyone "telling on" each other.
There's another article in today's Sentinel to the effect that Santa Cruz city is considering doing the same thing. I didn't want to over-post.
Hey Brucey, old buddy, old pal, It could have been a condom.
Or a hypodermic needle.
Right.
We wouldn't want mommy and daddy to share in the states responsibility for taking care of junior, or little missy now, would we?
Grrrrr ...
Hey Eggs, they (the elected trash) have been asking folks to rat out their neighbors for years.
Two simple rules that, if followed, would allow one to lead a rather peaceful existance ...
Mind your own business, and keep your hands to yourself.
Last week we took a week of vacation on the beaches of Sanibel and Captiva, and discovered to our dismay that the beaches were filthy with discarded garbage and cigarette butts. We won't be returning any time soon.
Atrocious grammar aside, would this councilman feel any better if the toddler in question had picked up a dead fish and put it in her mouth? Fish ARE biodegradable, and probably constitute a far greater health hazard as they lay rotting on the sand. Gonna prohibit those too, PC-Boy?
My dear young Freeper friend, as you get older, and a bit more wise, you may find that "slob" smokers may well be the least of your problems.
However, in the true spirit of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness", I certainly do hope that is the full extent of your lifes laments.
... or if a roach had been picked up and swallowed -- "It's Organic! - would have been the supporting hue and bellow" And those near and around Capitola reading the reports of "roach eaten" would have stopped suspecting their dude pals of petty theft.
Yeah.. as part of their "anger therapy and management" programs.
You survived. And then escaped. Congratulations!
