Daschle concerned about 'sobering' terror briefing

SPEARFISH -- Sen. Tom Daschle, D-S.D., said Thursday that he was very concerned about homeland security issues in the face of what he called the most sobering terror report he had heard recently.

The United States is tightening security in the face of a steady stream of intelligence indicating an attack aimed at disrupting elections, the White House said Thursday.

The Department of Homeland Security is addressing the threat and has efforts underway to ''ramp up security,'' White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Thursday.

"It is absolutely essential for the U.S. Senate to turn its attention to what we can do to make America safe," Daschle said.

Of particular concern are the nation's borders and ports, Daschle said, and there are security issues unresolved as the homeland security appropriations are "hung up" in the Senate.

Asked if the timing of the terror concerns might be aimed at stealing political thunder from the announcement of John Edwards as the democratic vice presidential candidate, Daschle replied, "The report is so sobering and so serious that I cannot bring myself to believe anyone in this administration would use this for political purposes."

Daschle said the most recent terror briefing was the second this week and contained information that there is a higher threat than there has been at any time since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"The threat is real.

Being prepared is never a bad idea.

As they say, "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst."

Keep your gas tank full enough to get to safety. I live in Florida and a hurricane survival kit is a good place to start, but I keep enough gas in cans to get off this sand bar. The best water filter in the world is the Big Berkey. I won't post a link because there are so many. Trust me, if you lose power, water won't come out the faucet.

OH PLEASE....dramatic are we not?

Quote "And anything that does happen here before the election is absolutely Spain's doing. The whole world is now up for grabs, thanks to the stinking Socialists."

The WHOLE world has been up for grabs for years and years...they just didn't help any.

That's because he's too busy grabassing Edwards, and laughing at skanky foulmouthed "celebrities" talk trash about our President and our country. Emptyheaded a$$hole.

I reported one Arab posing as a South American drug dealer. I don't know if that's a typical cover or not, but it would be so easy for terrorists in Houston to fade into the Hispanic community. We're so busy watching Ali at the dollar store that we miss Jose (aka Mohamed) working at the tacqueria.

Do you also report the employers of Illegals, so that potential terrorists will have a smaller sea in which to swim?

My bet is something on the left coast.

Gut feeling tells me San Francisco is vulnerable. Golden Gate Bridge the most likely target. Lots of tourists from around the world, too, makes it very high profile in the rest of world. My guess, though, is that any attacks will be multiple events in probably several cities across the country.

But..But...Hitlery said it was all a political ploy to draw attention away from the 'Rats. Hmmm....

Your source?

I saw the pc with her and Schumer. Clinton was asked at the end if she thought there was any political motivation to Ridge's announcement.

She scoffed at the idea.

Apparently you have a hard time understanding the implications of a terrorist attack that changes a government to one that bows to the demands of the murderers. Ask a grownup to explain in shorter words.

They DID target the Golden Gate, for 9/11,so it's a safe bet...following their MO.

They wanted to do multiple state attacks last time, but OBL threw out that idea. They are less well coordinated this time,so I really doubt they can pull off a multiple state attack.

I nominate Hollywood. I know, this is no laughing matter, very serious stuff. But I just couldn't resist.

Well, it actually makes a lot of sense. Hollywood and LA are the face of America around the world. It's a face very religious people have a hard time accepting and it's their culture that many Muslims are angry about.

Here is a "why they hate us" type article.

In his essay “Between Yesterday and Today,” Banna wrote that the colonialist Europeans had expropriated the resources of the Islamic lands and corrupted them with “their murderous germs”: "They imported their half-naked women into these regions, together with their liquors, their theaters, their dance halls, their amusements, their stories, their newspapers, their novels, their whims, their silly games, and their vices. . . . The day must come when the castles of this materialistic civilization will be laid low upon the heads of their inhabitants. "

The Brotherhood’s slogan was, and remains, “God is our objective; the Koran is our constitution; the prophet is our leader; struggle is our way; and death for the sake of God is the highest of our aspirations.”

Osama's letter to America

It includes such gems as this: (2) The second thing we call you to, is to stop your oppression, lies, immorality and debauchery that has spread among you.

(a) We call you to be a people of manners, principles, honour, and purity; to reject the immoral acts of fornication, homosexuality, intoxicants, gambling's, and trading with interest.

This conflict is very much about fundamentalist Islam versus person freedom.

What's sad is that it's the American political left that has the most to lose in all this, yet they fight us again and again.

Take a look at the Freeper comments on this thread and realize how futile your efforts are to turn Freepers against Bush.

Time to call AuntB for a crying towel.

There is an unfortunate but growing tendency on these threads to assail the posters motives rather than address his points. So, those who do not proclaim sufficient support for Israel are called antisemites. Those who oppose open illegal immigration are called racists.

Just a few articles down thread from this one can be found:

Talk Radio: The Great Communicator (Long Time Conservative Speaks Out Regarding Asa Hutchinson)

While I am not much impressed by the source, the author expresses an opinion which is clearly widely held and alleges facts, which, if true, are disturbing. One might also note that there are few national media outlets, apart from Bill O'reilly, who will take this issue on. Have a read:

"By far the biggest uproar came in June when the Temecula border patrol station formed a special mobile patrol group to conduct a series of illegal alien sweeps in three inland communities. A 12-man group made more than 450 arrests resulting in praise and scorn. These border patrolmen who had taken an oath to protect our borders - our sovereignty - were under severe attack for doing their assigned duty.

Activists launched a vicious attack on the border patrol for simply doing their job - for doing what the government pays them to do. A Cardinal Barnes led the attack, directing that pro illegal alien activity be supported by the Catholic Church and it was discovered that the Mexican consulates were spearheading the opposition activity. Then Undersecretary of Homeland Security Asa Hutchinson, bowing to pressure from the Mexican government, told members of Congress that the raids had been executed without the approval of higher ranking officials, that they'd violated policy and the chain of command.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, Robert Bonner issued a directive that future enforcement operations in the outlying areas surrounding checkpoints would have to be approved by border patrol headquarters IN WASHINGTON. Morale at the Temecula border patrol station sunk to its lowest level. The woman director of that installation resigned after 23 years of dedicated duty. And when talk radio called border patrol agents, they were told the agents had been muzzled; they were not to speak on the subject. But it didn't stop there."

I'm for Bush, and against his Amnesty and coddling of Illegals.

Is that so hard to grasp?

So, why do you tap dance around questions about Americans who employ Illegals, in violation of federal law?

Why won't you state whether or not you would report those who hire Illegals?

Why are you hesitant to state that these lawbreakers should be prosecuted?

Your question about whether Hillary really said that the Republicans are using this terror alert for political purposes prompted me to go and do a bit more research.

What I found, to my surprise, is that the Democrats switched their play book, while I blinked.

Now they are all saying how serious the threat is and why isn't the Bush administration taking more action.

It seems they are getting ready to blame Bush for the next attack, to go on record, that they want more security.

Dems are nothing, if not hypocritical and despicable.

Democrats pounce on terror alert
They're demanding new measures to protect railroads, ports and air travel.

http://www.sacbee.com/content/politics/story/9933449p-10855383c.html

They are also doing this to derail some other Republican bills on the Senate.

I should have known!!!!

"I simply can't believe that terrorists would want Bush to be reelected...that can't be to their advantage, regardless of what some libs have said."

For the Clintons this is an advantage and for the anti-war zealots, 4 more years of W would allow them to complete what I have seen as the groundwork within the left: to create a permanent anti-war front as a wedge to create a socialist America and an all-powerfull UN.

The problem for them is the moment that a red-haired, freckled white kid named Harold becomes a suicide bomber and/or terrorist, the sh!t will hit the fan.

In regards to Daschle, the threat is probably so serious that to not put out a strong statement is to set the Dems up as 2nd hand accomplices if something was to go down. Either way, an attack before the election will be more harmful to them than to W and brethern.
