FBI urges vigilance for July 4
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A constant stream of intelligence indicating that al Qaeda wants to strike the United States this summer or fall has led federal officials to urge increased vigilance during the Independence Day weekend, but there is no specific threat of an attack timed to the holiday.

BERLIN (AP) -- Fearing for his safety, German manager Bernd Stange told a German news agency Monday that he has stepped down as Iraq's national team coach, less than two weeks before the start of the Asian Cup.
Stange and the Iraqi Soccer Federation terminated a contract that ran until 2006. The German coach said he was warned his life was in danger if he returned to Iraq.
Stange has been in Jordan since April 8, when the German Foreign Ministry advised him to leave Iraq, where dozens of foreign nationals have been kidnapped by groups demanding their governments leave the country.
The 55-year-old said he was unable to do his job because he only sees his players when they're playing home matches, now held in Jordan, or at occasional training camps outside Iraq.
"In addition, my personal adviser, Siad Tarek, wrote me that he fears for my life if I were to return to Iraq," Stange said.
Because of the threat, Stange was said he would be unable to attend Iraq's next training session, which was moved to Baghdad after South Korea withdrew an invitation to the team to train in the Asian nation starting July 3.
"After the Korean hostage was beheaded, they withdrew the invitation," Stange said.
Any idea of the source as to where these messages are coming from?

Australia has been warned it could expect direct attacks from Al-Qaeda if Jemaah Islamiyah proved incapable of striking again.
A leading terrorism expert yesterday warned that Al-Qaeda would take a more active role in the region if JI failed to follow up the Bali bombing with another devastating attack.
Aldo Borgu, from the Government-funded Australian Strategic Policy Institute, told a Brisbane anti-terrorism conference that JI would "sooner or later" need to demonstrate its continued relevance.
"Should JI prove itself to be incapable of mounting serious operations against Australia, we may well witness Al-Qaeda taking more of a direct interest in targeting Australia," he said.

Hi Davey. I still see all the posts from IH that you posted here. Nothing has been pulled from IH. What do you mean?
BOSTON (AP) A power outage at a Logan International Airport terminal shut down security screening systems and other equipment Monday afternoon, and delayed dozens of flights.
The outage lasted more than four hours and was caused by a problem at two electric substations, according to Phil Orlandella, a spokesman for the Massachusetts Port Authority.
The outage shut down security screening systems, the equipment used to process passengers and luggage, as well as elevators and escalators in Terminal E, Orlandella said. It also delayed 15 international flights and 13 domestic flights, he said.
The Transportation Security Administration screened passengers and checked luggage by hand before power was restored Monday evening, Orlandella said. The cause of the outage was under investigation.
FBI expands probe to thwart terror attacks
WASHINGTON (AP) 07/05/04 Fearing terrorist attacks this summer and fall, the FBI is using its latest intelligence to expand interviews in U.S. communities to find al-Qaeda operatives before they strike.
An FBI official said the interviews will be driven by information gathered by the 2004 Threat Task Force, composed of bureau agents and analysts, plus experts from the intelligence community and Department of Homeland Security.
The official said only a small number of interviews have been taken place so far, but they will be conducted on a larger scale in coming weeks.
Among the more immediate concerns are potential attacks at the national party conventions later this month and in late August.
To step up intelligence-gathering, the FBI is bringing agents from around the country to its Washington headquarters on temporary assignments to work on the task force.
"The conventions are only part of it. This is really driven by information we collect, not by an event," said the official, who under FBI guidelines did not want to be quoted by name.
The task force is part of the FBI's reorganized intelligence operation, which includes intelligence groups in every field office around the country and a new Directorate of Intelligence, which will have its own budget in headquarters.
The reorganization is intended to spot any gaps in intelligence, a consequence of the bureau's failure to connect pre-Sept. 11 information that might have prevented the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.
The FBI has conducted community interviews before, going into Arab-American neighborhoods after the Sept. 11 hijackings to seek information. And, after the United States invaded Iraq, the FBI interviewed thousands of Iraqi-born individuals living in the United States to try to uncover potential terrorists and to protect the rest from hate crimes.
While current interviews are not tied exclusively to conventions, FBI Director Robert Mueller said recently that these events present inviting targets.
"This summer and fall our nation will celebrate a number of events that serve as powerful symbols of our free and democratic society. Unfortunately, the same events that fill most of us with hope and pride are seen by terrorists as prime vehicles for sowing fear and chaos," Mueller said.
The renewed federal effort is in addition to stringent security measures planned by state and local officials. The Democratic National Convention will be at Boston's FleetCenter from July 26 to July 29, and the Republicans will meet at Madison Square Garden in New York from Aug. 30 to Sept. 2.
The Secret Service has ordered Boston officials to close North Station rail hub and 40 miles of roads around the FleetCenter, including a portion of Interstate 93.
New York's plan calls for one lane of avenues directly outside Madison Square Garden to remain open to motorists, except during the approximately 13 hours the convention will be in session. It also imposes parking restrictions and reroutes bus service. Streets bordering the convention to the north and south would be closed for several blocks.
Secret Service spokeswoman Ann Roman said her agency has been working with state and local officials to secure the convention sites.
"We're confident after working over a year with these other agencies and forming partnerships with them, we will be able to provide a safe and secure environment," she said. "We will be prepared to respond to any number of different situations."
"The conventions are only part of it. This is really driven by information we collect, not by an event," said the official, who under FBI guidelines did not want to be quoted by name."
Can you imagine what that information contains???
It seems that they are seriously concerned about the coming days.
Once more, I thank you.
