Best pro-America Movies
July 2, 2004 | bobjam

With all of the publicity and hype over Moore's Bush hating and America bashing "documentary", it might be good on this Fourth of July weekend to sit back a reflect upon those movies that make us pround to be Americans. My suggestions are:

1) Midway- the Navy at its finest. Nothing beats the way the movie incorporates actual footage of the battle.

2) Last of the Mohicans- this movie captures the difficulty faced by frontiersmen, the British attitude towards them, and the spectacular beauty of the American wilderness.

3) The Alamo- the John Wayne version. The courage it took for the vastly outnumbered Davey Crocket, Jim Bowie, et al to stand up to Santa Ana was legendary.

What are some of your suggestions?

Moscow on the Hudson. A beautiful tribute to the greatness of America.

I always advise non-Americans to see "High Noon" and consider it an allegory, for an idea of how Americans think of themselves and their role in the world.

The company is ordered to hit the beach and they do it. The screw up slaps his face and Webb is right there. He - the DI - knew this guy would screw it up.

Taking the company out to search for the dead sand flea. Your mind reels. You know it is stupid. But is the order illegal? No, because no ones life is jeapordized by the order. And while everyone hates doing this - getting sweaty, sandy, and dirty - no one hates the DI. The hate the screw up, because if he just stopped trying to think and rationalize - just do it - then everything goes smoothly.

I bet liberals hate and detest this movie!

October Sky, it's a great movie about becoming who you want to be despite where you start.

Even though it stars liberal actor, Ben Affleck and it is produced by Disney, I liked, "Pearl Harbor". It was beautiful to watch.

Don't buy it or rent it and put money in Affleck's or Disney's pockets. I suggest you borrow it from the library or wait for it to come on tv.

Apollo 13 shows Americans overcoming very American-type problems,

I second this - It's a wonderful movie showing how we improvise, adapt, and overcome.

"Independence Day" is a great movie (not the greatest, but well worth seeing, none the less).

Some great ones already mentioned, but another one is "Miracle on Ice" w/ Kurt Russell.

Saw right around the Reagan Funeral and it provided such a stark contrast between the malaise Carter put the country into with the shot in the arm that win provided. It's going into to my "must have" DVD collection.

"Superman: The Movie"

This has to be the most politically incorrect superhero; afterall, he fights for Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
