WOULD YOU ENLIST TODAY, TO JOIN THE WAR ON TERROR, IF THE MILITARY WOULD HAVE YOU?
self | 6-29-2004 | self - vanity - poll

Posted on 06/29/2004 1:44:09 PM PDT by BagCamAddict

If there were no restrictions on age, weight, fitness, etc., would you sign up to join the War on Terror??

This is a vanity poll, due to the news today that the Army may be dipping into the Individual Ready Reserve pool. Several Freepers have indicated they would go if called upon, but they don't think they will be called due to their age.

Please post ONLY ONCE, and ONLY IF YOU WOULD GO, so that we can easily see the tally by looking at the number of replies.

I'm just turned 48, and I've said for along time to send some peri/menopausal women over there.

I would hate to leave my adult children, but I think I could make a contribution, since it's usually my goal to get through the day without tearing someone's face off!

age 49 - legally blind - YES

I will do what is necessary to protect my country, my family and human freedom itself (in ASCENDING order of importance). If that involves strapping a nuke on my back and walking into Mecca, YOU GOT IT.

The United States of America. We ARE the World. Without any question, we represent all segments of the human species. If we fail, we all fail. We don't need ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. We need to the world to apply for statehood and abide by our Constitution. End of debate.

Dear Flagwaver, Thank YOU for serving.

I've been talking to military people over the past 7 weeks. There are MANY positions that non-physically able people can perform in support -- whether in active or in the rear. It isn't just about sending troops to Iraq or Afghanistan -- the total operation involved IS HUGE. There are support positions which can be ably done by those with the skills thereby freeing "others" who are currently being kept in the rear.

My dad served in WWI, Korea, and was commissioned for Viet Nam. He told my brothers and me what keeps you alive is being "scared". It's when you let your guard down that you don't see or perceive the sniper, mine, or enemy combatant. Ergo, you would perform fine, if called to! :)

P.S. I am willing to bring my own supply of bloomers for those interrogatory opportunities that may come along.

Good additions. Anybody up for teaching the local young things about the esoteric charms of pole dancing?

I may be old and I may be a tad grumpy, but I'd go if it were possible.

From what I see, it appears that the majority would go in a heartbeat. That comes as no surprise to me, from what I see in this forum.

It would be interesting to see how the response would be over on the Hanoi John website.....hehehehehehe

I'm as old as a deck of cards and a sensitive female so I would screw up any combat operations. :o) Sign me up anyway --- I could always sing and dance to support the troops.

in a heart beat 52 work construction ready

At Fort Bragg, the new Airborne building was just constructed. Former President Bush (Sr) was there for the grand opening. You are vital.

You won't/don't know what you can do for your country, until you try!

Seems a majority posting positively in this thread are middle-aged. Liberals for 30 years keep hammering that you are near death or retirement, so you should just "ease on" into the sunset, so they can hand you freebie after freebie and claim to be your best friend. IMHO, MIddle Age is when LIFE REALLY GETS GREAT! Sure, body parts get worn down.. but the mind -- WOW! Been around the mountain a few times, and know what the valleys and peaks are about.

(BTW, I'll fight euthanisia laws everytime they come up, Mr. Soros). And it just gripes my *****, how the libs keep on hammering about how useless the middle-aged and elderly are. Just gripes me no end. And of course, they then blather on about "Pres Bush being responsible for killing young men and women in this "war" -- when it has been liberal laws and promiscuities and abberations of civility which has encouraged these attacks upon our country. Sending youngsters into fight a WAR?

HECK! That's what liberals are doing at all public institutes of learning -- they have classrooms of children writing anti-Republican letters; have whole classrooms devoted to 'USE AND ABUSING" the young -- just so liberals can get their ***** agenda; and prate about how "caring of the children" they are.

You did nothing to provoke my rant, JHNY7. Please forgive my outburst. You are vital -- there is so much life in you. You are needed in this country.

Take a look at this; we're surrounded by wonderful people-

Indeed we are, and the strength of America has always been in her average citizenry.

My short answer is of course, yes, but I'd also point out that as I have said in a rant elsewhere, "we will all be called to be warriors," because this is not going to go away soon, and it will likely come home to our shores. We have to get hard, and stay hard.

For the duration.

Just retired AF after 20+ years. Would go in a heartbeat! I tried to go to SW Asia numerous times right after 911, but I was in the wrong job. Hell, I qualified/marksman on M-16 and M-9, and I figure I can spray lead around with the best of them! (although moving targets are different)

Besides, I wouldn't want the dirtbags to feel humiliated or anything, I'd just kill 'em all and let God sort them out.

Cheers!

Wonder if they would let us form a Free Republic Brigade? The First Free Rifles?
