A 23-year-old female teacher in Tampa, Fla., was arrested Monday for the second time on charges of having sex with a 14-year-old male student.
Debra Lafave, (pictured, Below) was accompanied by her new attorney, John Fitzgibbons as she surrendered to Marion County deputies in Ocala.
Lafave, who is married, is a reading teacher at Greco Middle School in Temple Terrace, just northeast of Tampa.
The new charges accuse Lafave of pursuing the 14-year-old student to Ocala, Fla., while he was visiting his 15-year-old cousin.
Detectives said Lafave had sex with the student twice in Ocala - once in the back seat of her car while the cousin drove around town and then again in the car while parked at Brick City Park.
In police statements made by the 15-year-old witness, Lafave allegedly said that she was turned-on by the fact that what she was doing was illegal, WFTS-TV reported.
Lafave has been place on administrative leave.
It's a good thing she's not a priest, or this would be serious.
So what are you trying to say?
I agree, she should be punished - what she did was wrong. Doesn't change the fact that I'll still have the commemorative edition mailed to my door. :) *ducks while tulip throws things at me*
Why did this never happen to ME?!!
I would have been president by now.
,,, here's one reading teacher who needs to know the true meaning of a sentence.
i agree that teachers shouldn't have sex with their students, and that this woman should be fired and not be given any more teaching jobs.
i'm just wondering if damage was actually done. i think some boys would be injured by this, but i'm not totally convinced that it would injure most boys.
this teacher sounds more nuts than criminal.
From a religious, moral and spiritual angle, I know it injured the boy. Will it have an adverse affect on him psychologically? You bet it will, for from now on he will feel intense guilt about sex, or conversely, he will view all women, even teachers and authority figures, as nothing but walking flesh.
"(he was apparently bragging at school that he had sex with a hot teacher.)"
I know of a young girl, age 14, who cuts herself on the wrists, and then brags about to her friends. Do you think the bragging negates the injury?
"i think boys and girls may be different,"
Except, I will wager, when it comes to women's rights, eh?
and i think who does the abuse and how it is done play a role in determining whether the victim is injured."
I appreciate your honesty. This lack of consequences for horrendous deeds is the ultimate goal of the feminists and 'women's rights' activists. I have long known this, and it gets revealed more clearly each and every day.
Jerry Reed??
Life is so not fair. So not fair.
Lighten up Francis.
After seeing this guy's arms ... I'm thinking there is a 14 year old boy out there that should rightfully be in fear for his life.
Not healthy ? What the hell do you think STARTS a nice meaningful long term relationship with a woman ?
If you say friendship, then you are deluding yourself.
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
I'm not a huge fan of country except for some of the old-time classics, e.g. Johnny Cash, Jean Shepherd, Charlie Daniels, etc., and some of the more out there, outlaw-type artists, such as the Flying Burrito Brothers and the 'Kinkster'.
Personally, I've always enjoyed the humorous stuff, though that's just my own opinion.
at what age does this sort of thing NOT have an injurious effect? 18? 19? 20? 21?
from what i can tell, the legal age of consent varies a lot from state to state, although the trend is for it to go up over time.
i realize that 14 is young, and it might injure him. but people used to get married at that age, and i think they still can in some states.
for a long time, in many european countries, men used to take their sons to brothels to have them educated in sex.
i have spoken to many women who were severely damaged by sexual abuse when they were young, but i haven't yet spoken to any men who mention they were injured as boys by being sexually abused by attractive young females.
has anyone out there spoken to a male who was sexually abused as a teenager by an attractive young woman? i just wonder if it really damages males.
i think most of us would accept that if the student had been female, and the teacher either male or female, significant damage would have been done. i also think that if it had been a male teacher with a male student, significant damage would have been done. i think if it had been a big, mean, ugly female teacher and a young boy, significant damage would have been done.
the thing i don't know is this--if it is a hot, young female teacher and a teenage boy, and if the boy doesn't feel coerced, does it cause damage? maybe it does, but there is at least a possibility that it does not cause serious damage. many of us who were once teenage boys seem to question whether or not it would have really hurt us if this particular teacher had seduced us.
Sam's last show.
McAllister Auditorium, Tulane University.
2 days before the accident.
damn, but that man was funny.
My roommate and I heard the news and thought Sam was pulling a joke.
well said.
why cannot some folks just be honest?
has ANYONE on this thread said the teacher should NOT be punished?
don't - apples and oranges make a fruit basket, not a cogent argument.
the kid was not "harmed" by the experience, certainly not the way a 14-year-old girl would be by sex with a 23 year old male teacher... let alone a litle NAMBLA scenario.
the kid is the BMOC from now all the way to college.
nevertheless, the teacher has a screw loose and should be prosecuted under the laws of that state.
