Update:
IRAQ HANDOVER 'TODAY'
The handover of power in Iraq is to be brought forward to today.
A formal announcement will be made later today, Tony Blair said.
The informal announcement was made by Iraq's foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.
The handover of power to an interim Iraqi government was supposed to take place on June 30.
Mr Zebari said the deteriorating security situation in the country was one of the reasons why the date had been brought forward.
"We will challenge these elements in Iraq, the anti-democratic elements, by even bringing the handover of sovereignty before June 30 as a sign we are ready for it," he said.
He added: "We have made some very good progress in terms of the new security council (in Iraq) and the return of sovereignty to the Iraqi people to take away the level of occupation we have suffered a great deal from.
"There are many Iraqis who are standing up to the challenge. We are here to seek more help and assistance, training and equipment."
May your mom's prediction come true.....very soon!
Prairie
Your posts have given me tears of happiness.
How wonderful to read the thoughts of Iraqis right here on FR!
Fox news on the radio was praising Moore's movie--it was NUMBER ONE at the box office--the first time for any documentary! This was at 8:00 am (central time)...hopefully this will be the last time I will hear about this stupid movie today while listening to talk radio.
I never noticed how much Effin looks like "I Spy" star Robert Culp:
Yep ! What the idiot DUers don't seem to get is that the Coalition/New Iraq Government pulled one over on the Terrorists. The biggest danger on June 30th was a Terror attack during the turnover. SURPRISE ! We're gonna make a PRE-EMPTIVE STRIKE/TURNOVER !
Terrorists left scratching their heads and their plans to ABORT THE TURNOVER !
Brilliant !
FOX News showed a clip a little while ago of Bush/Blair/Rumsfeld/Powell (at NATO thing, I think). They showed Bush take off his headset/translater/whatever and turn around and smiled at Rumsfeld. He then turned to Tony Blair (who was sitting to Bush's right) and leaned over and whispered in his ear. Blair nodded and smiled big and they shook each others hand ! It was a great scene to behold them learning the Iraq transition/turnover was a done deal !! :^D
Boy we don't call them dims for nuthin'!
I don't recall anyone saying that but if they had they meant to preempt any attacks on the ceremony. Duh!
No wonder Moore thinks Americans are stupid, these are the kind of flakes he surrounds himself with.
These despicable hostage takers go for those who feel safest with locals. Nick Berg most likely went willingly with his captors. Paul Johnson considered himself part of Saudi life. The Korean, conversant in Arabic, was interested in religious matters. This corporal, also an Arabic speaker, may have had some community contacts, that seemed innocuous.
It is possible that he had a girlfriend, and when he did not return to base last week, he was marked down as awol, until the photos were aired.
LOL ! Thanks. There is a resemblance. haha !
Sorry Carolinamom, Jennings was in the room, but not Brokaw or Rather.
Ha! This is astounding... amazing nothing was leaked to the media. When I learned about the early transfer, I immediately thought how CNN must be pi**ed... they've been snootily announcing live coverage of the June 30 Iraqi handover for weeks now. Probably couldn't wait to provide live coverage of the "disaster" that was sure to happen Wednesday on Dubya's watch...
When the Japanese hostages were being held, some rumors circulated that they were part of a humanitarian group and that they may have had complicity in staging the appearance of being hostages.
Oh, shoot. But thanks for the info anyway. Dan Rather was all dressed up for the 30th......maybe he can visit his best bud, Hussein.
God bless & protect the new leaders. mixed feelings seeing Bremer leave with the many armed guards.. I am sure he will not miss that tension, will he?
God Be with the people (and our people) in Iraq
It's never too late to celebrate this day! Congrats on getting a good night's sleep.......gonna need it if the good news keeps on coming.
Awesome news. You know the Left is going to complain again about the secrecy of the Bush administration.
I love how this Administration is able to get things done to shut up their critics.
Speaking of dress, did you see the shirt Brokaw was wearing this morning? I think it was some sort of denim and it had short sleeves with huge pockets on the front. Gay dorky came to mind when I saw him.
Brokaw did a special a few months back, he was driving around in a powder blue Thunderbird. I'm beginning to wonder about Tom's sexual preferences.
Morning Betty. President Bush makes me proud to be an American.
