U.S. Charges Australian Linked to al-Qaida

WASHINGTON - An Australian held at the Navy's prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will face a military tribunal for allegedly training and fighting alongside members of al-Qaida in Afghanistan (news - web sites), the Pentagon (news - web sites) announced Thursday.

I'm not really sure about reports world-wide. I have not really looked into it. I am under the assumption that whatever is occurring now is largely normal.

Yes, it definately sounds as if it was something, no doubt about that. I could only guess as to what it was, I just tend to believe that it 'was not' house-sized.

I'm sorry I have to say this, but meteors have absolutely nothing to do with AQ, OBL, Iraq, the Middle East, or actual, threatened, or potential acts of terrorism, although I'm sure some of you can bootstrap a connection to justify the meteor and similar posts, no matter how silly and kooky it makes you look.

I think we veered off track after trying to analyze the bin Laden composites. ex. from the pic of Binny and the Sun/Venus pic...the transit of Venus....was it a go signal? Was it? I don't think we really know.

What's certain is that we've done some excellent dot connecting in the past and I agree that it's time to get back on track. I'm to blame for part of the meteor discussions because of the "blast" that I heard. I apologize.

After reading this post it has given me some insight. Here goes the what if: What if we gained intel that an AQ ship had been loaded with WMD's and it was headed for the Eastern Seaboard, would that help explain the deployment of 10 carrier groups, to find it before it gets here? That along with the stories about the GPS navigation systems? The President telling soldiers( especially Air Force) about the secrets that must be kept secret? I think that may be what our Navy is doing now and I do hope they are successful.

Perhaps you could enlighten me . . . WHAT EXACTLY is NOT terrifying about massive deaths from meteors/quakes/ . . . . [insert calamity of choice] . . . alone . . . as well as followed by massive stirring of the chaotic pot afterward by Jihadi's???

Very simple: This thread wan't stated as a place to talk about every possible event that could cause a person to experience terror. The Thread is suppose to be about actual and potential terrorist attacks and our war against the terrorists. Note that despite the use of the word "terror" in the title of the Thread, the Thread is supposed to be about "terrorism."

If we're going to allow endless posts on meteors, then I think we should bring tornados and hurricanes into the Thread also because I know lots of people who are terrified by tornados and hurricanes, and there is always the possibility that AQ is using the airplane that they may have stolen in Africa last year to engage in a secret cloud seeding operation to increase the frequency and severity of tornados and hurricanes. Then when the big one hits all the sleeper cells will emerge to commit additional acts of terror to add to the chaos. We also need to include posts concerning dentists and rollercoasters because they are known to terrorize certain people, and lot of dentists in my area are middle eastern and rollercoasters are located in amusement parks, which are know terrorist targets. Terrifying nightmares should also on topic particularly if they involve tunnels, bridges, and airplanes, fire, or floods (all of which can be terrifying in themselves to some people, and which could), because you never know when someone's nightmare could be a premonition of the next terrorist attack.

This was the first thing that I heard when I woke and turned on the local news this morning.

The story has seemed to change just in the span of the last hour. Now I'm hearing that the fire was started in the wooden scaffolding (they are doing a retrofitting of the bridge) and spread to INSIDE the bridge to some of the original wooden structure.

Due to the "compartments" inside the bridge, they can not get water into the different areas to put out the fire.

Reports were that the fire fighters were thinking of lowering someone through a manhole but decided that was too risky.

You are right mfccinsd, although not a major bridge, the freeway below is a major link to downtown.

Extremely strange.

And now they are saying that they've been called to this bridge for smoke twice before (and I caught only the end of the time range, but I think she said since yesterday)...

It is really an odd thing...I hope they figured out how it started and what to do about this...cause watching the bits I've seen on TV I could see this being a really bad thing once someone gets a crazy idea from it :-(

The massive deployment of our navy remains a mystery. Your idea is on the short list of my theories, sort of like a reverse blockade in the hopes of snagging the enemy before they can enter our ports. My other thought is that the home ports are just too susceptible to nuclear attack, which could do a lot of damage to our fleet if exploded within a mile or two of the target. Norfolk/Hampton Roads, is a major commercial shipping, rail, and trucking location, which provides a lot of oppurtunity to put a nuke very close to our Navy. The same can be said about the Groton/New London area. Explode a nuke in either area, and a lot of ships go down, unless they're out to sea.

The Internal Debate in Iran: How to Respond to Western Pressure Regarding Its Nuclear Program

In response to increasing international pressure on Iran on the matter of its nuclear program, two major approaches are emerging in the Iranian media regarding the question of how to repel the Western threat to Iran's nuclear activities.

The following is an analysis of these two main approaches to this question, as reflected in the Iranian media:


The Two Approaches

The first approach espoused by Iran's conservatives, and particularly by the Revolutionary Guards and circles close to Iranian Leader Ali Khamenei, is militant and aggressive, and openly threatens European and U.S. targets and interests, both in the Middle East and in the West.

The second approach, espoused by Iran's reformist circles, is more moderate, emphasizing diplomatic channels, and opposes threatening the Europeans. However, for all their differences, both camps agree on Iran's need for an advanced nuclear program.


Conservative Strategy: Threat and Intimidation

Currently, Iran's nuclear activity dossier is under examination at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and a decision on it is slated to be made soon. Iran is trying to block the U.S.

To repel the Western threat, Iran's conservatives are recommending intimidating Europe and the U.S. This is the backdrop to the following: (snip)

A growing number of reports about the recruitment and training of thousands of Iranian volunteers by Iran's Revolutionary Guards for suicide attacks against Western, European, and U.S. targets in Iraq, and their dispatch to Iraq. [2] (See Appendix I)

Reports on the resumption of Iran's project for long-range Shihab 4 and Shihab 5 missiles, by order of Iranian Leader Ali Khamenei – with Europe and the U.S. as its strategic targets. [3]

Reformist Strategy: Diplomatic Efforts

The reformist circles, particularly those surrounding Iranian President Muhammad Khatami and the Foreign Ministry, are recommending a moderate strategy to be pursued via diplomatic channels.(snip)

According to a military source in the Iranian Ministry of Defense, "in a meeting last week with Revolutionary Guards commanders, Khamenei said that Israel was planning to attack Iran's nuclear installations and the Iranian military soon,

and therefore defense and military preparedness should be boosted as soon as possible.

Khamenei stressed that the increase in petroleum prices allowed Iran to allocate a larger budget to its military projects.

[Iran's] Ministry of Defense received $1 billion to resume its Shihab 4 and Shihab 5 project. It is known that in the past, Iran conducted an experiment with Shihab 3 missiles whose range is 1,200 kilometers [and which can reach Israel], but [President] Khatami halted the project of the Shihab 4, whose range is 2,800 [which covers Western Europe], and the Shihab 5, whose range is 4,900-5,300 km [and which can reach the U.S.], because he thought it was a project incompatible with Iran's strategic interests and defense needs." Statements by Dr. Hassan Abasi, theoretician of Revolutionary Guards intelligence, head of the Revolutionary Guards' Center for Doctrinaire Affairs of National Security Outside Iran's Borders, and political expert for the Iranian broadcasting authority, who told a secret meeting of Ansar-e Hizbullah activists about Iran's

Our intention is that 6,000 U.S. nuclear warheads will explode in [the U.S.].

We have located the [29] weak points and we have transferred the information about them to the guerilla organizations, and we are acting through them."


Abasi added, "We have established a department for Britain as well, and the discussion about bringing about its collapse is on our agenda. We are also operating among the Mexicans, the Argentineans, and all those with a problem with the U.S."

I take pride in my actions that cause anxiety and fear among the Americans… We have a strategy drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilizationand for the uprooting of the Americans and the English.

Our missiles are now ready to strike at their civilization, and as soon as the instructions arrive from Leader [Ali Khamenei], we will launch our missiles at their cities and installations.

Our motto during the war in Iraq was: Karbala, we are coming, Jerusalem, we are coming.

And because of Khatami's policies and his 'dialogue among civilizations,' we have been compelled to freeze our plan… And now we are [again] about to carry out the program…

The global infidel front is a front against Allah and the Muslims, and we must make use of everything we have at hand to strike at this front, by means of our suicide operations or by means of our missiles." [13]

Not exactly like searching for a needle in a haystack. Those vessels should be easy to find, and with them possibly Osam bin Ladin.
