I didn't log in for a long time today because I thought that everyone was going to be yelling at me for my pro-space threats post last night. I actually value every informational post that is presented in a sincere manner for the erudition of the others, certainly to include terrorism-related posts. I hope no one left for good last night or today.
Regarding Hanford, it seems that patrols are increased during every elevation to orange status, and a few other times. Years ago, when Hanford was producing special materials for use in nuclear weaponry, at least two helos were assigned full time. Ground patrols with automatic weapons were commonly seen. There is still a firing range about 5 miles from my house but it was last used for machine gun practice in about 2002, I believe (not hard to hear when they did that).
The Hanford cleanup is going OK, some things ahead of schedule and some behind. However, the DOE Assistant Secretary in charge of cleanup just resigned "to spend more time with her family", for what that's worth.
I think the Umatilla Chemical Depot always has tight security. The main threat has always been a deliberate crash of an aircraft into the 7 million pounds plus of nerve gas stores.
Interesting, the lawsuit brought by the 49 workers who claimed to be contaminated in 1999 is continuing. A doctor who treated some of them at the Hermiston Hospital told a Federal Judge that he believes he was also contaminated, probably from the clothes of the workers, and was ill.
I don't have any doubt that some kind of weapons-related chemical contamination occurred, although the government denies it. It is sort of like Gulf War Syndrome.

I just did a pretty lengthly google and did not find any islamic conference for that date in the U.S. If "all are welcome" they sure are keeping it low profile. Hmmmm....

There have been about 4000 launches (some with multiple payloads) and my guess is that several hundred of the satellites involved are still active. Nine individual countries have launched satellites (USA, Russia, Japan, China, France, India, Israel, Australia, UK) as well as international consortia (ESA, the European Space Agency, being the most important of those). A large number of countries have enough money and could easily acquire the technology to launch satellites, but choose for economy and convenience to either have another country launch their payloads or to participate in the space projects of other nations.

I want to know as quickly as possible about any and all threats so that I have the best opportunity to provide protection for my family.
This thread is great because it is a centralized location where you can become aware of the various threats and make up your own mind as to their likelihood. It's also become a great resource for learning about ways to prepare for the worst.
The focus here should rightfully be on terrorism because that's the biggest and most likely threat. But I think there's room for discussion of meteors, comets, Yellowstone and lavender because it's all in the spirit of why this thread was created... to be aware and prepared.
Wait, Cedar Rapids? CEDAR RAPIDS?? Wasn't that already hit with a bio-attack? But then, I heard Dustin Hoffman and Cuba Gooding Jr. saved the day from the evil Morgan Freeman and the EVIL Donald Southerland....right? Some kind of OUTBREAK???
When the list of cities was originally posted I started looking at Cedar Rapids. The only things interesting that I found were that Cedar Rapids had the 1st mosque in the US at the turn of the century and the 1st exclusive Muslim burial ground. Also still has a large muslim population.
The Springfield and Peoria in the list are both the ones in Illinois, as per the original list that we had. Peoria is the city connected with the Islamic underground network that feeds into Champaign Illinois, into the university.

Future Medical Shelter Prototype Set Up at Fort Detrick

FORT DETRICK, Md., June 16, 2004 -- A telemedicine test bed here welcomed a new, green neighbor May 25 when a boxy prototype of the Army's Future Medical Shelter System arrived from Tennessee.
Encased in a standard shipping container, the 8-foot by 8-foot by 20-foot shelter essentially is a new operating room in a box for a combat support hospital that can be ready for patients in as little as a half hour, said Steve Reichard, program manager for the shelter at the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity here.

When I was with the 9th ID our primary Rapid Response domestic mission was to respond to Umatilla in case of a terrorist incident (this was mid '80's!) or civilian disturbance (Riot). It was a primary reason I was made my unit chemical officer and sent to the nbc school. We used to load up a bunch of choppers on almost zero notice and deploy down there to practice a variety of scenarios.
