Applause to me says, "Job well done, Mr. President."

applause at a funeral?

Strange, but here's how I took it. They knew the hell Nancy had been through tending to her husband for the last ten years, and that was their way of showing their respect to her.

There's a newer term, "cremains" for "cremated" remains which I find to be a bit tacky.

Tacky or stupid (sounds like a marketing ploy)...My family has relied on cremation for generations. We just call 'em ASHES. ;-)

I am not impressed with the composure. I want total silence--not idiots without self control.

I also remember the cadence from Kenndy's funeral.

Am I the only one who prefers the onlookers to be silent?

Me too. But polite applause, which started with the current pope, is better that the dickwad who yelled "God bless you, Nancy" when the were loading the casket.

It has been a delightful surprise to discover that Major Garrett is such a decent sort of fella. We never saw that side of him when he was at CNN

I can imagine the hours that are used to train these horses.

And you can't really rehearse this circumstance, with real crowd, real crowd noise, and the real tension and excitement in the air.

Good call...they're all doing an excellent job of staying in formation...the cars, the bikes, the marchers...

Not easy under the best of conditions, and today isn't that.

Think about Macy's parade or Rose Bowl parade, you always see gaps between groups...you won't (or shouldn't) see that here.

This is yet another way that President Reagan showed consideration to the American people-- by having this state funeral so that we could all observe his life and passing together.

Sgt. York is getting a bit toey out there. I wonder if they did a run thru with him on pavement in the last few days. Race horses aren't used to pavement.

(I'm a long time - hands on race horse owner in W. Australia.)
