I haven't seen much of these Reagan memorial events and I haven't read the threads.
Are there actually Freepers who are criticizing the events?
I'm not ashamed to say this......
That's when I lost it.
Lester Holt was explaining how when the flag is put on the coffin for the ride on the caisson, there are straps to hold the flag down so the flag is much tighter drawn around the casket unlike being drapped like it was before. Looks like they are going to leave it straped down in the Rotunda.
Holt had on the former head of the Ceremonial Unit who explained also that the strapes keep the flag from being picked up by the wind.
I noticed when the casket was taken from the herse that they made the flag much tighter on the casket and I wondered why then and within seconds it was explained.
C----BS
I saw the double curtsy. She did so and started to walk away, hesitated, turned back and curtsied again.
I know, I know! I went to CNN for LKL interview of President H.W.Bush and Barbara Bush (I'll bet that's the first time I've punched in CNN's numbers in years) and found them wonderful and charming. President Bush turns 80 on Saturday and is going SKYDIVING on Sunday!
What a terrific family! I just love the Silver Fox and her husband, and ADORE their son.
All the music was moving, but the choir in the Rotunda got to my soul.
I saw Michael give Nancy a hug at the funeral home before they went to the Library....and I've never heard Michael speak badly of Nancy....You MAY be "wrong."
I did screw it up....too bad I didn't have Fox on, since they actually called it what it was.
CBS didn't, and I was under the impression that Friday was the national funeral and that was all there was.
Well, thanks to FR being a big place so when you goof you get caught...I was told otherwise.
Today's ceremony and the crowds' reverence have given libs a glimpse of the authenic America that Reagan and Bush speak to. We don't do nuance.
:-)
I agree that one cannot compare this one and that of JFK.
Jackie was a traumatized young woman and no really complete plans could have been produced. Certainly cutting slack is exactly the gracious thing to do.
In reality there is no way even Jackie's good taste could compare with that of Nancy just based on age and tolerance for tradition.
Then there is the contrast of the quality of the two marriages.
God most literally blessed America with RR.
I think I just lost the rest of my good humor with "sissified" being used to describe wreaths near the casket.
I am thankful, really, for most of the comments, but man, we always have our flies in the punch.
You arent't the only one, as I could hear the lyrics echoing in my mind, my only hope that the young ones who were watching, would come to know and understand the words.
I don't disagree. I was replying to the poster about the comparison with President's Kennedy's procession. I stated my observations which were not complaints. I would not have missed this ceremony today for anything. I was probably much older in 1963 than the majority of posters here today - sorry if you took my comments to be other than my intent.
My only complaints today were having to surf different channels to find one where everyone wasn't yacking!
It was from the House, Senate, and the President. That is why you saw Ted Stevens, Denny Haster, and then VP Cheney place the wreaths.
Supreme Court did not place a wreath. Lester Holt had on the former head of the ceremonial unit who explained everything. Holt also explained the location of the wreaths as one is pointing to the Senate side, one is pointing to the Senate side, and the final one is at the head of the casket for the President. Holt did his homework. I don't normally like to watch him, but he was very good today and had his facts including the flyover by the F-15's from Seymour Johnson -- MSNBC picked up the planes immediately and the last unit had the missing man.
Fox needed to do some research for this service! Of course, they could have looked to see who placed the wreaths and since there was no one there to place a wreath from the Judiciary that should have been a clue.
Thanks, I will Tivo.
I have never heard a more beautiful rendition of "America, the Beautiful" than today's choral performance. Would love to have a recording of it.
Lets just say those are not her cheek bones
