LIVE THREAD: Reagan State Funeral Ceremony: Arrival at the Capitol

Arrival at Andrews Air Force Base scheduled for 5 P.M. EDT.

Beginning of procession: 16th and Constitution at 6:00 P.M.

The procession begins at 16 th Street and Constitution Avenue with the ceremonial transfer of remains of former President Ronald Reagan from a hearse to a horse-drawn caisson for the processional to the Capitol. The casket transfer will take place at 6 p.m. and caisson continues east with formal military escort.

The public will be able to pay final respects while the remains lie in state in the Capitol rotunda from 7:00 p.m. through Friday, June 11, 2004 at 9:30 a.m.

I hope that we get a real number of how many people were there- not CNN saying "10,000"- it looks like HUNDREDS of thousands.

I was 12 when Kennedy was assassinated....and watched just about everything afterward.....TOTALLY different because he was murdered, had young children...it was more about what COULD HAVE BEEN.....THIS is a celebration of WHAT RONALD REAGAN IS and WAS.

... Heat advisory in effect until 7 PM EDT...

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory this
afternoon and early evening for the cities of Washington DC and
Baltimore. Temperatures of around 90 degrees combined with high
humidities will produce heat indices around 98 degrees. Isolated late
afternoon showers and thunderstorms may provide some relief from the
heat.

Children, the elderly and people with chronic ailments are usually
the first to suffer from the heat. Heat exhaustion, cramps, or in
extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these
conditions. Friends, relatives, or neighbors should check on people
who may be at risk.

Forecast as of 5:47 PM EDT on June 9, 2004

A heat advisory continues through this evening for the Washington and Baltimore metropolitan areas inside the beltway. Through 8 PM...expect hazy sunshine with hot and humid conditions. Downtown temperatures will range from 88 to 93 through 7 PM...and then start to slowly fall by 8 PM. Heat indices in the metropolitan areas will range from 93 to 99. Winds will be out of the southwest at 10 mph. Those engaged in outdoor activities early this evening are urged to stay in the shade...drink Plenty of fluids...and avoid strenuous activities until temperatures cool later this evening.
