Hollywood sources tell LA Weekly columnist Nikki Finke that former President Ronald Reagan's medical condition has suddenly worsened. "He really took a downslide today," the insider told Finke Friday evening. "Doctors are at the house. Things aren't good." At the start of the day, several news organizations chased down a rumor that the ex-president had died, but it wasn't true... Family members gathered at the Reagan's Bel Air home late Friday... Developing...

Very interesting link to RR and his WWII experiences. I was trying to find what branch of service he was in. He took home-study Extension courses for the Army. First joined up in the Cavalry in 1937 in the Reserves, then interrupted his acting career in 1941 and went on active duty at the time of Pearl Harbor.

Did not pass the physical due to eyesight problems, but eventually managed to get past that, though was never able to go overseas, which was his dream, because of the eyesight issue. Was assigned stateside in SF. Then a movie about the Air Force was being planned, so to work that in, he was transferred to the AAF from the Cavalry.

Captain Reagan's AAF overcoat.

This explains why President was uncharacteristically late for his meeting with the Pope. That's probably when they received word.

I'm really sorry to hear about that! She and RR were quite the team, weren't they?

They embody what Churchill spoke of much earlier in the century...that civilization itself depended on the quiet yet determined unity of the english-speaking peoples.

May it ever be thus.

Kerry by contrast, will appear as the shallow, smarmy, manipulative, unstable, narcissistic sick freak that he really is.

Are you saying you don't like John Kerry?

Some of the DUers are chastising the celebrants, saying they are acting like FReepers. They are saying they are the compassionate ones and FReepers are the haters.

I went slumming over there, and could not believe some of the posts. One of them said "ding dong the witch is dead", another said President bush will delay the announcement of his death so his photo-op D-Day bs will not be upstaged. Folks these are the constituents of JK, the ones he calls his base, enough said?"

Ron Reagan Jr. should peruse the sight, it might jolt him into some kind of reality.

I love that man. What hope he gave us. What inspiration he provided the world with his vision and stalwart leadership.

I wish him a gentle passing and comfort for his family.

To which I will add a prayer that Our Lord give him a twenty-one gun salute as he approaches His Throne.

Charismatic presidents are very rare. In its history our country has rallied around the few charismatic presidents that have led our country through difficult times. Ronald Reagan was one of this charismatic presidents. Americans needed something or someone to maintain its belief and confidence in itself.

Ronald Reagan was the man that this nation needed to right itself and bring it back together. We should all thank the Lord in heaven for sharing the bright light, that Ronald Reagan has been, with us.

"civilization itself depended on the quiet yet determined unity of the english-speaking peoples."

As true with Bush/Blair/Howard as ever. Our values and goals are largely the same.

You, also, are a blessing.

I was getting some laundry out of the way and came back to the computer ... I just clicked over to this page and quickly click-scrolled down to a section where I could not see to whom it was addressed, nor who had written it.

Within two sentences, I recognized your writing. I thought to myself, has to be her. Scroll down a little more and, yes.

Wonderful and analytical, as always.<P.Thank you.

I will never forget Reagan as President. I grew up with him, and he made me feel more safe and proud to be an American. I couldn't wait to cast my first vote when I turned 18. I wish Reagan could have run for a third term...

Reagan was the first person I ever voted for. I turned 18 in 1984, he was at the top of the ticket, and alas, the first person I voted for. My daughter's middle name is Reagan. Tho my brother one upped me, and gave his daughter the first name of Reagan. (both spelled that way too.)

I'm sure we'll also hear about Reagan's dysfunctional kids, Patti and Ron, and all of the asinine things they've said over the years (including Ron's recent criticisms of W).

I say, bring it on. The vitriol can only hurt the libs, just like Wellstone's death rally did. Reagan will kick the media's ass again, just like always...
