TOP STORY: Mysterious blast rocks Wairoa
10.06.2004 - Hawkes Bay Today
MARTY SHARPE
A massive mysterious explosion in Wairoa this morning shook windows and woke people in Mahia, Kotemaori, Ruakituri, Lake Waikaremoana and Wairoa. Wairoa senior sergeant Chris Flood said the explosion occurred about 3.40am. Police called several people around the district. "They report hearing a loud explosion and seeing the whole sky light up. Everyone heard it," Mr Flood said. He thought it might have been a meteor. ....
Carter Observatory astronomer Kay Leather said the explosion may well have been the sonic boom of a meteor entering the atmosphere.
"There have been several recent reports of fireballs in the northern hemisphere, in Portugal and in Washington. There have also been several recordings of these occurring during the day, which is our night," Ms Leather said. I just celebrated my 26th wedding anniversary yesterday, June 9th.
Would you like me to begin doing it at 4000 from now on then?
See #4016. As for anything coming from GLP, take it with a heaping tablespoon of salt.
A boom and smoke could also be a transformer blowing, but then, someone would have been without electricity and calls to dispatch would hve occurred.
Meteors are active right now.
It could have been that, too.
I haven't generally followed any of the comet/asteroid stuff. However, there have been reports of explosions and lights in the sky in a variety of countries. Just saw a new report that the same was observed/heard in New Zealand.
I know, that's what #4016 is about.
