While Ashcroft and Mueller said they had no intelligence as to a specific time or place of an attack, authorities have intercepted a stream of "linked" intelligence that points to one particular attack on a massive scale, according to one just-retired senior federal law enforcement official who is familiar with the current intelligence

"There are some pretty credible threats, one in particular," said the former official, who spoke only on the condition he not be identified. He said much of that intelligence has come in recent months from intercepts of communications from one particular country, and that it is eerily similar to intelligence chatter just before Sept. 11, 2001, in which unidentified operatives spoke in expectant tones about some huge and imminent event.


Some of the linked intelligence points to a major attack on a choke point in the rail system somewhere along the Northeast corridor, from New York to Washington, D.C., and perhaps Boston to the north, said the former official. In response, the FBI and other agencies have deployed large numbers of agents to conduct surveillance on Amtrak and other rail lines, which in turn has led to additional concerns, said the former official and several current counterterrorism authorities.

That bank robbery in LA some years back was a real nutcruncher. 2 guys with body armor kept dozens of law enforcement at bay for hours.

The cops tried to stop them with handgun rounds with a large cross sectional area. Just the kind of round that the vests are built to defeat. After the sporting goods stores provided the cops with AR-15 rifles, the party was over. The vests won't stop the .223 caliber bullet because of the smaller cross section. It zips right through a standard vest. Heavier vests with big trauma plates can stop a .308 rifle...once. I'm still miffed that the cops never paid the sporting goods store for the rifles.

If your marksmanship is good, the triangle formed by the eyes and mouth is available and vulnerable whether the party has a vest or not. Armpits and inner thighs are also available and effective.

If you are in need of cover from flying bullets, the front end of a car or truck puts a lot of metal between you and the flying projectile. The doors are almost useless. A rifle round will punch both doors with ease.

I detect at least one bad assumption. Not all the jihadis are intent on immediate martyrdom. Many intend to do damage as long as possible. When the finally do get tagged, their buddies can label them martyrs for Allah. Until then, assume they intend to keep fighting as long and hard as they can.

And once again Canada is being targeted as the haven for religious zealots and fundamental terrorists and our good neighbours to the south are being warned that Canadians are the new enemy. Robert Mueller, director for the FBI said for the first time Wednesday one of the two Canadians is believed to have discussed hijacking a plane in Canada and flying it into an U.S. building.

Bush still gets high marks among Americans on fighting terrorism, and was perhaps at his best after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

It has been said before, and it will be said again. Fighting terror cannot be done on a battlefield or in a foreign country. Policing and keeping order and continuing to make a country strong from within are the best ways to fight terror.

Fear mongering will do nothing to keep peace and order in the United States.

Umm, although always appreciated, you may have misunderstood the point. It was more related to the possibility of interconnected crimes rather than specifically prevention of said crime.

Robbers Steal Body Armor, Police Lights, Gun Scopes

DAVIE, Fla. -- Police are searching for a group of smash-and-grab robbers who stole thousands of dollars worth of body armor, ammunition, police lights and gun scopes from a Davie police supply store Monday night.

A piece of plywood now covers the front door at the National Law Enforcement Distributors store along state Road 84 just west of University. Storeowner Jeff Dillard says it's not the first time the supply store has been hit. He says he's been robbed three times in the past six months.

"To have this much loss, so close to each other. It's pretty frustrating," Dillard said.

Just one month ago, Dillard said robbers made off with about $5,000 worth of merchandise. Monday night, he said they got away with about the same.

"They stole another level-three piece of body armor. And they stole a heavy-duty SWAT piece of body armor -- probably (worth) around $2,500, $2,800. They stole all of our blue lights," Dillard said.

The store is equipped with four surveillance cameras. In last month's robbery, cameras captured images of a gloved and masked person robbing the store, but Monday night, the cameras were not working.

"We don't know if they came in and cut it off or if we took a power surge. When we checked the video, it wasn't running," Dillard said.

Dillard said about the only positive in the robbery is the fact that no guns were stolen.

They are procurring body armor because, as I have said before way back in December, I see gunmen in our streets and neighborhoods, offices. when they do it they must do it up big to complete their agenda/goal which I believe is to shut us down totally. Along with the simultaneous wmd attacks I feel there will be gunmen driving around shooting people or taking down people in high rises,shopping malls etc. when I get feeling nervous that something is going down I pack when I go to work (I should do it every day). You might have to secure your suite or floor of the building you are working in. You may have too shoot it out on the freeway because they have flipped a truck and jammed it up and then gunmen jump out of cars and just start shooting everyone. Maybe I'm paranoid but I don't think so.
