Making a tragic day even worse, several servers at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) were broken into on Saturday by a group of hackers protesting U.S. policy in the Middle East.

Web pages hosted on those servers were replaced with pages displaying a political message critical of U.S. policy in Iraq, according to a report by UK security company mi2g Ltd. and confirmed by a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) spokesman.

"All I can tell you is that over the weekend several servers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory were broken into and Web pages were replaced with pages containing political messages, " said Brian Dunbar, a NASA spokesman.

The digital attacks on nine of the JPL's servers occurred at just past 2 p.m. Pacific Time (22:00 GMT) on Saturday evening and lasted for more than one and a half hours. The targeted servers supported the jpl.nasa.gov Web site and were running Sun Microsystems Inc.'s Solaris operating system, according to mi2g.

Dunbar declined to provide specific details about how many or what kind of servers were targeted, but said the affected machines were taken offline for about five hours following the attack.

The source of the attacks was a group of hackers that called themselves "Trippin Smurfs," according to mi2g. The origin of that group was being investigated, according to mi2g.

The hackers replaced JPL Web site content with a message that read, in part:

"I noticed that a war with Iraq is iminent...and i wonder why?!...When is this going to stop? Why does U.S. attack Iraq?"

NASA would not indicate whether other information stored on the servers was tampered with or stolen.

"We don't go into that level of detail on security breaches," Dunbar said.

Despite occurring hours following the disintegration of the space shuttle Columbia as it reentered Earth's atmosphere on Saturday morning, there was no mention of the disaster in the message posted by the hacker group. It was unclear whether the attack was prompted by the crash.

Also unclear are links between Trippin Smurfs and fundamentalist hacker groups such as the pro-Islamic hacker group Unix Security Guard, according to mi2g.

Mi2g became aware of the attack after monitoring messages posted on bulletin boards used by various hacker groups, according to Jan Andresen of mi2g's Intelligence Unit.

Dunbar declined to comment on whether the attack might have been linked to the Columbia disaster, but said that NASA and the JPL are common targets for hackers.

Although not unprecedented, successful attacks in which hackers are able to compromise NASA computers are "rarer and rarer." The agency did suffer similar Web site defacement in 1997, according to Dunbar.

NASA is working with law enforcement to track down the perpetrators of this weekend's attack. That investigation will start with NASA's Office of Inspector General, but may expand to include the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, according to Dunbar.

Unrelated reports of broken links and missing pages on NASA's home page, www.nasa.gov, were the product of a recent overhaul of the agency's Web page and efforts to deal with a flood of traffic following the Columbia disaster, not evidence of further attacks, Dunbar said.

NASA launched an updated Web site at midnight on Friday, switching from a single Web server housed in the basement of NASA's headquarters to a more robust Web site infrastructure managed by AT&T Corp., according to Dunbar.

While the move enabled the agency to handle the more than 100 million hits to its Web site in the hours following the loss of the first space shuttle in 17 years, links to some archived Web site material on an FTP server managed by NASA need to be touched up, according to Dunbar.

Briton Accused of Poisoned Baby Food Blackmail Plot

A Briton has been accused in California of blackmailing a supermarket chain with threats to put poisoned baby food on store shelves.


David Ian Dickinson, 43, was remanded in custody by Los Angeles Judge Jennifer Lum.

The court determined that Dickinson posed a danger to the community and was a flight risk, said Thom Mrozek, spokesman for the US attorney’s office.

Dickinson, was arrested by federal agents on Wednesday and charged with one count of extortion and one count of tampering with consumer products, said US Attorney Debra Yang.

Dickinson, who was living with his family in the Venice area on an expired visa, allegedly sent a package to a Ralphs corporate office in Compton containing four food products, including baby food and formula, with a letter labelled “blackmail demand,” Yang said.

A separate letter was sent several days later demanding £100,000. It threatened a wide range of tampered foods would be sent to stores if demands were not met.

Tests on the food products sent to the Ralphs revealed a container of Gerber orange juice contained more than 50% hydraulic fluid.

Boric acid was found in a jar of horseradish and a container of Similac infant formula.

A jar of Gerber carrots also was found to contain glass shards.

Yang stressed no contaminated food products made their way into the food supply.

“We have no evidence, no knowledge and no belief that there are tainted foods on the shelf at any Ralphs,” said Yang. “No one should be afraid to shop at Ralphs or any other retailer.”

If convicted, Dickinson faces up to 25 years in prison.

A preliminary hearing date has been set for May 20 unless a grand jury hands down an indictment before the hearing, Mrozek said. Dickinson also will be asked to enter a plea during an arraignment scheduled for May 24.

As part of what authorities described as an “elaborate” extortion plot, Dickinson allegedly demanded Ralphs place the £100,000 into an account and distribute 9,000 bank cards at stores in Santa Monica, San Diego, and San Ramon that could be used to access the account.

Shoppers were to be told that the cards might be worth money in the future.

The letter further demanded that Ralphs place an advertisement for a “German tuba” in the March 25 issue of a Los Angeles paper

and instructed that the PIN number to access the money be listed as the tuba’s model number.

Surveillance footage at a grocery store in Santa Monica showed a man on a bicycle who resembled the person seen on surveillance tape at the Venice post office, where the package of contaminated food items was sent.

Dickinson was later identified and a search warrant for his home turned up a yellow jacket and other clothing he allegedly wore when he mailed the tainted food to the grocery store chain, Yang said.

Dickinson later admitted to the plot and told investigators he “did it” and was planning to flee the country with his family, Yang said.

Dickinson assured authorities he had not sent any contaminated food items to stores, said FBI Special Agent in Charge James Sheehane.

“This was a pretty elaborate scheme,” Sheehan said. “He is an above average thinker, he was smart, we were smarter.”

DOG DISEASE: PARVO [READ LAST SENTENCE]

Parvo can survive in an environment for as long as 9 months. The only disinfectant known to kill Parvo is chlorine bleach. A 1:30 ratio of chlorine bleach in water has been known to be effective for sanitizing contaminated areas. Any area known to be contaminated should be thoroughly sanitized.

Symptoms of Parvo include high fever, loss of appetite, lethargy, and vomiting. There is no cure for Parvo. Veterinarians can help infected dogs by treating the symptoms and dehydration. Most dogs die if they do not receive veterinary attention.

Parvo can also attack a dog's heart causing congestive heart failure. This complication can occur months or years after an apparent recovery from the intestinal form of the disease. Puppies who survive parvo infection usually remain somewhat un-healthy and weak for life.

On June 11, 2003, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a joint order prohibiting the importation of all African rodents into the United States. The joint order also banned within the United States any sale, offering for distribution, transport, or release into the environment, of prairie dogs and six genera of African rodents. The joint order was enacted as part of the public health response to the first reported outbreak of monkeypox in the United States. Below are pictures and the species names of some of the embargoed animals. Click on any image to enlarge it. On November 4, 2003, the joint order was replaced by an interim final rule which maintains the bans on importation of African rodents and the sale, distribution, transport, and release into the environment as previously described.

Viruses and bacteria could be genetically engineered to evade the human immune system, to create a more effective biological weapon, a leading researcher into bio-weapons said yesterday.
In the past 30 years biotechnology has been revolutionised by molecular biology and genetic engineering. These techniques, used to control infectious diseases, can also be used to create more effective biological weapons.
Speaking at the conference on the future of weaponry, Professor Kathryn Nixdorff, of the University of Darmstadt, said that dangerous micro-organisms had already been produced inadvertently during attempts to modify vaccines and viruses.

In the veterinary field, there has been a general trend away from the use of modified live vaccines (MLV). Modified live vaccines produce a superior vaccine response compared to a killed vaccine (KV); but, they often create concerns for the animal to revert to virulence. These concerns are magnified when virulence occurs in non-adapted wildlife that people have no control or limited control over.

One of the main concerns is from viral shedding in an immunosuppressed host that is vaccinated with a modified live virus. All falcons that are successfully "infected" (vaccinated) with a modified live virus vaccine can be made to shed the vaccine virus under immunosuppressive conditions. Under normal conditions, vaccinates latently harbor the virus and do not shed. No one can be certain that the shed vaccine virus could not be an introduced pathogen for other wildlife or human hosts.

The modified live viruses that falcons with passports receive to date that are publicly known are:

1. Salmovac-F: S. typhimurium typhimurium live vaccine.
2. DUFAPA: inactivated PMV-1 vaccine (including 4 different strains).
3. ADFA: Falconpox live vaccine.
4. Enterovac-F: Toxoid vaccine including 4 different falcon strains of C. perfringens type A/B.
5. DUFAHE: Falconherpes live vaccine. (Wernery et al., 1999)

Several experts in the field have made the modified live virus vaccines an issue and have publicly stated that because of the potential dangers associated with the use of modified live vaccines that the use of killed viruses (KVs) are completely safe. These experts also suggested that the UAE be more judicious in the production and use of vaccines.

Execerpt: But a former NASA physician and epidemiologist based in Houston believes there is an infectious bacteria at the heart of this problem. Dr. William Harvey is the current chairman of the NASA Education Advisory Committee. He has documented more than 565 of these (Borreliosis) cases in Texas and says 94% of (those with Morgellons’ skin lesions) have tested positive for the bacteria associated with Lyme disease, or Borreliosis. "I think we are a looking at a major problem that has been unrecognized in humanity right now."

Harvey co-authored a published medical study concluding the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, associated with Lyme disease, could be at the heart of a widely unknown misdiagnosed infection. In 2003 Harvey published his research in the medical journal Medical Hypotheses. His article 'Lyme Disease': Ancient Engine of an Unrecognized Borreliosis Pandemic, suggests that the bacteria associated with Lyme disease is much more widely distributed. "The yet-unrecognized form appears to have a broader clinical presentation, wider geographic distribution, and vastly greater prevalence," Harvey wrote in his report.  He says research suggests it attacks the immune system in a specific way rendering it susceptible to these unusual organisms. "The lab tests that we do are predictably showing certain immune damage and it is consistent from patient to patient to patient to patient."

Harvey believes the bacteria is the bigger problem. But the so-called parasites, which have yet to be clinically proven in a controlled laboratory setting, do have highly unusual characteristics as seen through a scanning electron microscope. Leitao says they also defy being easily identified. "What we see are branching structures very fungus like but so large, these fibers, these hyphae are so large that they can not be any of the known fungi." Harvey says some of the "filaments" have been confirmed as the infectious yeast Candida tropicalis.

Urgency To Intercede For The United States, Israel, China & Taiwan

On May 14, 2004 -- Israel's Independence Day -- I received the following vision shortly after arriving in the United States from the Philippines.

Vision: Immediately after invading Taiwan, China had invaded the Philippine Islands. U.S. troops had once again come to the aid of the Philippines -- as in World War II -- and were fighting along side Filipino soldiers. But the absence of U.S. air superiority (because of the closure of our military bases in the early 90's) led to a quick to a quick defeat of our joint forces. U.S. soldiers were being slaughtered by the thousands, and atrocities being committed by the Chinese a thousand times worse than anything we have seen in Iraq.

In one segment of the vision, hundreds of filipinos had been gathered up in a straight line to be shot by the Chinese for 'colaborating with Americans'. A little boy ran in between the machine guns and Filipinos and shouted "Stop!". Stunned, the Chinese lowered their guns to take a closer look at the small boy, then suddenly dropped their riffles as the anointing of the Holy Spirit fell like a heavy weight over their arms. The little boy I recognized as my son, Joshua, and his age in the vision appeared to be close to his present age. Chinese troops were patroling the streets of the Philippines from the tip of Luzon in the north to the city of Zamboanga in the South, and darkness fell over the land as many martyrs spilled their blood upon the soil of the islands of the sea.

It is urgent that we intercede for the leaders of China and Taiwan, because the enemy is once again trying to create a Third World War. We are not to fear the future, but intercede to change the future. World War II could have been averted through strategic intercession, but the Church in that generation did not recongnize the urgency of the hour in which they living until world events overwhelmed them and it was too late. Let's not wait till it is too late, but intercede now, for history is now in the process of being written.

Note: Less than 24-hours after this word was spoken in Bend, Oregon, China threatened the destruction of Taipei, and threats against Taiwan continue till this day. Also today (May 19, 2004), a strong 6.5 quake shook Taipei, and we've been warned of larger quakes in the 8 to 9-point realm which will follow in the China-Taiwan region. Continue to intercede for China and Taiwan, for if war in the Asian-Pacific region erupts, war in America will follow.

United States and Israel

Just as it is important to pray for the leaders of China and Taiwan, it is equally important to pray for the leaders of the United States and Israel, which are both on the verge of major wake up calls. Strategic intercession can tilt the balance. Keep your eyes closely on world events. A major earthquake in Alaska in the 9-point realm will be preceded by a smaller quake in the 7-point realm SOUTH of Alaska on the U.S. or Canadian Coast. This smaller quake will be a divine warning that time is short to avert a Great Quake. Intercession towards the United States and Israel can affect the timetable of these events.

This was a small excerpt of the message spoken in our Bend, Oregon meeting on Saturday, May 15. The Presense of the Holy Spirit was very strong in the meetings, and following the word to intercede for China, the United States and Israel there was an anointed time of ministry and personal prophecy.

We do not judge success upon the amount of people who attend or size of offering, but upon obedience to the Holy Spirit and the anointing released to bring about change. In the mountains of the Philippines where we normally minister, an average offering consists of several bags of rice and periodically a chicken or goat, given sacrificially by the people who come to hear a strange white man speak about Jesus. My idea of success is going to bed at night covered with the sweet presense of the Holy Spirit.

Ministry Update

I am departing Oregon tomorrow for a thousand mile journey across Northern and Southern California. Two of our seven meetings on this trip have cancelled because of the strong spiritual warefare surrounding this particular mission -- the enemy obviously does not want a river of intercession released over North America, but his plans shall not succeed. Pray for our vehicle as we travel across the West Coast, especially our tires ... that they would be supernaturally preserved until funds come in to buy new ones. In June, I will be deparing for South Africa for two weeks to network with pastors and leaders in the Cape Town area, traveling on a bonus-mile ticket donated to the ministry last year. Thanks for your prayers!
