In the Clintonista world, two phrases were operative. The first was, "I apologize for ---". The second was, "I take responsibility for-----". The press was satisfied and went on to other things. I do not equate Pres Bush saying he is sorry about what happened with an apology. That may be on the way tho. It would not be a deal breaker for me if he does go all the way. I will vote for him regardless. Whatever the President thinks needs to be done to save this country from war on our soil is fine by me. An apology is lost on our enemies as well as our media and is therefore meaningless anyway. Rush comes as close as anyone to expressing how I feel about this whole situation and I give him the same latitude as I do President Bush. My gut reaction was disappointment but the larger picture is always the goal.

If you truly believe that, then I think you don't have a clue what real strength is. Bush is revealing himself to be a man who is trying to live his Christian faith, and do what he believes is right. Anyone who mistakes that for weakness would be wrong, whether or not they agree with his decisions.

Now, let's get to the REAL issue--who sold those photos to the media? Senator Rockefeller, or somebody on his staff? He's on the SSIC, and he wrote a memo suggesting democrats do JUST THIS SORT OF THING. And never apologized for it, and didn't resign, though many in Congress called for it, including Sen Zell Miller

I think you are on to something. Some staff members of the Intelligence committee go on to jobs in the Pentagon, and vice versa. It seems to be a revolving door. I bet there is a connection between the 'leaking' of the report and Dem sympathizers assigned to, or recently working on, the Intelligence committee.

American troops did no wrong. No harm was suffered by these POWs.

American personnel were given orders to humiliate enemy POWs as a means of preparing them for interrogation. These POWs were humiliated in a manner which threatened neither life nor limb. And, they were hooded, so that no one except those in immediate contact knew who they were, removing the risk of public disgrace after release.

This was a well-calculated and executed psychological operation. For Americans to feel sorry for this is disgraceful. For the President of the United States to apologize for this is also disgraceful.

Two possibilities exist: the President doesn't understand the nature of the enemy and the means necessary to weaken and defeat him, or the President feels that the USA has done grievous wrong and should perform public contrition. Either situation means that Bush is not capable as a warime leader beyond his willigness to prosecute the war. At the moment, he is doing exactly what his political opponent recommended. Bush further refuses to confront domestic Leftists.

It reminds me of the way they did Trent Lott. Each successive apology was greeted by demands for more concessions. Bush has already done the equivalent of going on BET, the arab nets. Now an apology for something some army punks did that EMBARRASSED somebody? Expect the calls for Rumsfeld to resign to immediately get louder. And if he cans Rummy they'll go for W himself. Or at least demand to choose the next SecDef themselves. No, I know they'll filibuster the SecDef the way they are the judicial nominees. Never, ever, ever apologize for doing your job. NEVER! I thought he understood this during the china shoot-down incident, the 9-11 hearings. To hear he broke that now... it sucks, it really does.
