Kerry Says His 'Family' Owns SUV, Not He

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Does John Kerry, who supports higher automobile fuel economy standards, own a gas-guzzling SUV? He does, but says it belongs to the family, not to him.

During a conference call Thursday with reporters to discuss his upcoming jobs tour through West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Michigan, the Democratic presidential candidate was asked whether he owned a Chevrolet Suburban.

``I don't own an SUV,'' said Kerry, who supports increasing existing fuel economy standards to 36 miles per gallon by 2015 in order to reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil supplies.

Kerry also has made rising gasoline prices an issue in the campaign against President Bush. In Houston on Thursday, Kerry said the president broke a 2000 campaign pledge to ``jawbone'' oil-producing nations by pressuring them to increase their output.

Kerry thought for a second when asked whether his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, had a Suburban at their Ketchum, Idaho, home. Kerry said he owns and drives a Dodge 600 and recently bought a Chrysler 300M. He said his wife owns the Chevrolet SUV.

``The family has it. I don't have it,'' he said.

Kerry said it's important for his family to buy American cars and pledged to keep car manufacturing jobs in the country if elected. He said he is interested in a hybrid car, and has talked to Ford about making it the ``campaign car.''

``We're going to keep jobs in America and help the industry be more competitive with foreign manufacturers that are building those cars today,'' Kerry said.

The Massachusetts senator said he'll release more details during the jobs tour about his plans to keep jobs in the country.

``I want cars to be made in Michigan, made in America, made'' by the United Auto Workers, Kerry said.

He throws away someone else's medals.
He drives someone else's SUV.
He marries someone else's wife
and He inherits someone else's money.

Maybe someday he'll be president of someone else's country.

I don't own an SUV,'' said Kerry, . . . .

Senator Kerry, does your answer depend on the meaning of I?

I guess Ralph Nader won't be on the ticket

John Kerry sets them up....

"I don't own an SUV," said Kerry, who supports increasing existing fuel economy standards to 36 miles per gallon by 2015 in order to reduce the nation's dependence on foreign oil supplies.
...
Kerry said he owns and drives a Dodge 600 and recently bought a Chrysler 300M.
...
Kerry said it's important for his family to buy American cars and pledged to keep car manufacturing jobs in the country if elected.
...
"I want cars to be made in Michigan, made in America, made" by the United Auto Workers, Kerry said.
...and I knock 'em down. Kerry (who, you remember, is a big advocate of fuel efficiency) says he recently bought a Chrysler 300M. Well....

- The Chrysler 300M gets an "EPA estimated mpg: 17 city/ 25 highway". That's SUV mileage.

- The Chrysler 300M is "made in Brampton, Ontario". Plant details can be found here. The 300M has been made there since 1998.

So, it's important to Kerry to buy cars "made in Michigan, made in America, made" by the United Auto Workers".....but he buys a car made in Canada, by Canadians.

Oh, and in that article, Kerry claims...

"I don't own an SUV," said Kerry, ...

Kerry thought for a second when asked whether his wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, had a Suburban at their Ketchum, Idaho, home. ... "The family has it. I don't have it," he said.Uh huh. Well, he didn't earn that 'flip-flop" reputation for nothing. Here's what John Kerry said when he talked to the Detroit News...

Q: What kind of vehicles does your family drive?

A: We have some SUVs. We have a Jeep. We have a couple of Chrysler minivans. We have a PT Cruiser up in Boston. I have an old Dodge 600 that I keep in the Senate. ... We also have a Chevy, a big Suburban.Note that he claims multiple SUVs.

Hm. An automative discrepancy? It's minor stuff, to be sure, but it's exactly the sort of stupid minutiae politicians do lie about.

And catching them at it? Well, that is its own reward.

We ought to start a pool as to how many days until Kerry gives a straight answer to a simple question.

"This is not my beautiful wife! This is not my beautiful SUV!"

Well, at least the part about the "Beautiful" wife is true.

John probably told us more about his "Marriage" than his SUV. Terry is just for show. (Possibly a Horror Show! What an unpleasant looking lady!)

WHAT FORD EXECUTIVE? Who did you talk to at Ford?

One happened by his restaurant table in New York while he was talking to a foreign leader.

On Earth Day 2000, Kerry was followed by an intrepid heckler, who posted a hilarious video (1 MB) of the assorted gas guzzlers that Kerry and his pals had arrived in.

CREA Blasts Senator John Kerry, Anti-ANWR Groups For Display of Environmental Double Standard

Washington, DC - The Council of Republicans for Environmental Advocacy (CREA) expressed outrage that the issue of exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) has become little more than a public relations and fundraising tool for Senator John Kerry (MA) and many "environmental" organizations. There is little evidence to suggest that Senator Kerry understands the day-to-day realities of energy policy for average Americans. Proof of his lack of credibility on this issue can be found in startling video footage from an anti-ANWR, pro-energy conservation rally.

At the rally, Senator Kerry and representatives of organizations leading the charge against ANWR spoke against domestic exploration and instead encouraged people to rely solely on energy efficiency and alternative fuel sources. However, the behind the scenes reality was very different than the message being delivered. "It's unconscionable for Senator John Kerry to stand on stage and tell the American public to accept higher gasoline prices, forego energy stability and to hold Congress to his standard of environmental integrity, while behind the scenes, he and his friends arrive in chauffer-driven SUVs and limousines," said CREA President Italia Federici.

At the fuel efficiency, clean energy rally, the Senator and spokesmen for leading anti-ANWR organizations, including the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, the AFL-CIO, the Natural Resources Defense Council, US PIRG, Service Employees International, Environmental Defense, the World Wildlife Fund, Defenders of Wildlife, the World Resources Institute and the Union of Concerned Scientists, arrived in the least fuel-efficient vehicles available today. "Limousines and SUVs average a mere 13 miles per gallon of gasoline in the city, which is 40% to 60% less fuel efficient than the average automobile's city performance," said Italia Federici.

The video of him asking his wife if they own a SUV needs to be in a Bush ad showing Kerry's decision making capabilities. Amazed he did not ask the UN.

If you are a Bush supporter, you just couldn't script this kind of thing any better.
