How come the paperwork on Kerry's Bronze Star Award is signed by John Lehman, Sec. of the Navy????
In addition, the date Lehman (supposedly) signed it is not on the document.
Did Kerry not get the award when Chaffee was Secretary of the Navy? If not, why not?
Did Kerry get the award 15 years late?
Or is the paperwork a "sham" and somebody made a big booboo?
I'll post the document as soon as I find it again. Maybe somebody here has it bookmarked? And, if there's already been a thread on this that I missed....please direct me to the proper thread.
Thanks!

I was on a destroyer in the Gulf of Tonkin for 6 months in 68-69. It was considered to be in the war zone and we qualified for combat pay and earned the Vietnam Service Medal while rarely being in sight of land.
I also recall that in the month we left, we spent a few days doing shore bombardment. There was something about qualifying for combat pay by either being in the 'zone' for the entire month of being in combat for part of the month. Never understood the full details of that.

We (Army LCUs) were caught a few times between a gun cruiser and the shore when the darkened ship would open up with a few broadsides.
Awesome! Those shells (8"?) would darn near lift a person off the deck as they passed - roared - overhead.

It is interesting indeed that Kerry does not have the Zumwalt citation on his website.

Our Destroyer only had 5" guns. But I do remember being between the beach and the cruiser Newport News when she was firing her 8" guns and recall the shells passing overhead.

I took someone else's advice, and saved the files to my website. (So when the fit hits the shan, I'll have the documents. (and so I'll be able to show my father this weekend.)

(Spelling excluded of course!)

Not to reopen a can of worms but last night I was following this thing and all the talk was about the Lehman signatures and rubber stamps or auto-signature machines. In the post I am replying to, the signature on the unit citation and the signature on Kerry's documents are NOT identical. I don't know what any of this means but I sure would like to hear the explanation.

Those rapid fire 5s were pretty good too.
I was impressed by how quickly the shell casing piled up on the deck out side the turret - and by the speed which a tree line or bunker would disappear.

See #429
I believe you can find all except the MOH and a few more.
I would back a federal statute of a mandated 5 year sentence and loss of all current and/or future SS, SSA, SSI, Vet's Benefit Checks, Vet's Medical Benefits, Vet's Disabled Checks, Worker's Comp, Unemployment, and Medicare/Medicaid bennies for fakeroos.
My solutions get immediate 100% effects.
Recall that rad lib professor with the Special Ops enhanced resume on the left coast?
Why do we see anti-war pansies so involved in John Wayne movie personal revisionisms?
Something deep is missing in their hollow souls.
Recall Kerry's Senate rants blaming TV's Bonanza and Gunsmoke and John Wayne WWII flicks?
I have it in my .mp3 Kerryllection of Duty files somewhere on a short clip.
Now we get the defense attorney "I wuz a (27 year old) kid" from the Billionaire Boston Bride; but then I am not one for "nuance" or "parsing" and other transparent bovine scat.

Good info. Thanks.
You should transcript the Bonanza rant and post it as its own thread.

It's an autopen or stamp signature.
Nothing fraudulent about that.
Kerry did take a lot of time to pretty up his service though.

OK, someone needs to put up W's service record so we can compare the two. Seriously, give it up guys Remember how much everyone was up in arms when the folks on the other side of the fence were trying to do the same thing concerning the president's reserve record. If you want to do battle, Bush vs. Kerry, military service is a poor choice of a battleground. My military service record is more impressive than the president's.

Very interesting.
Aside from the questions of why different language is on there, why did the Kerry campaign keep Zumalt's citation from their website? Very interesting....

When I first enlisted, I was active USNR for four years. All of my official documents stated "USNR," not USN.
