. The Bush campaign is organizing a "National Party for the President Day" on Thursday, April 29 at 8:00 p.m. EST to allow supporters to gather together in unity behind President George W. Bush. "Across the country, supporters of President Bush will gather in homes, restaurants and community centers to stand up for our President," Bush campaign manager Ken Mehlman wrote in an e-mail to Bush supporters recently. The free events are scheduled to take place in cities across the country, including in personal homes and at local restaurants. The Bush campaign has even set up a special surprise for supporters who are able to get 5 or more people to attend their party. Mehlman said their party "will include a conference call with a senior [Bush] campaign leader" at 8:30 p.m. EST. He added, "This special guest will answer questions and deliver a political briefing on the progress of the campaign." Describing the purpose of the "National Party for the President Day," Mehlman explained it "is a simple, volunteer event that brings together local friends and neighbors who support the President." People who decide to host one of these parties will receive a package of materials from the Bush campaign, including an exclusive video about the campaign, bumper stickers, miscellaneous campaign materials and a signed letter from Bush. "These fun, informal events will help grow the President's strong base of support in local communities throughout the country and bring the President one step closer to victory in November," Mehlman concluded. He continued, "We have a hard fight in the days ahead and the President needs your help." Even Vice President Dick Cheney is encouraging people to join him in the "National Party for the President Day" to cheer on the president to victory in November. "On that day, I will be joining thousands of parties across the country on a live conference call to talk about the clear choice voters face this November and the importance of the grassroots effort that will lead us to victory," Cheney revealed. "The President and I are counting on grassroots activists, like you, to act on the commitment we all share." Cheney said he will try to call as many of the parties as possible on April 29. The goal of the Bush campaign is to have 2004 parties commemorating President Bush on April 29. At press time, there were 2,046 parties planned for that day and nearly 4,000 overall.

Parties for the President are informal, grassroots "parties" attended by supporters of President Bush with virtually no cost to the host or those in attendance and are not official Bush-Cheney '04 events. To comply with federal law, Parties for the President hosted at a person's home must be paid for by the person hosting the event and the cost cannot exceed $1,000. The person hosting the event cannot share the cost with others or ask others to help pay. A Party for the President hosted at a public location such as a restaurant requires that each person in attendance pay for the food or drink they consume to comply with federal law.
SOME of these "Parties for the President" will apparently be RECURRING events, such as the ones hosted by our good FRiend, Genevieve: Genevieve's Party for the President
4/29/2004 - Beverly Hills
Genevieve is throwing ALL those dinners? She **is** a "party" animal, eh? :o)
Not sure that we should call these "DINNERS," though; they are supposed to be "PARTIES."If you can, please try to make it for the FIRST one, on Thursday, April 29.
Just the first one on the 29th in BH.
COOL Dubya come to my hoodNot quite.
These "Parties for the President" (over TWO THOUSAND of them) will be held all across the USA......but the President himself will only be able to visit a FEW of them, if any.
The VICE President, however, will be at ALL of the "parties" - LIVE via telephone conference call.
Genevieve is throwing ALL those dinners? That is not the way that it is listed on the website.Just the first one on the 29th in BH.
THEY say that she will be hosting all of the above.Perhaps the President's team just ASSUMED that she would also support multiple future events.
The SAME THING happened to me, the FIRST time that I subnitted a request for an invitation.(Then I sent in a SECOND request, and THAT one went through O.K.)I thought that it was just ME. :o)

The DC Chapter of Free Republic set up a Viet-Cong Vets for Kerry bake sale in front of Democrat Presidential candidate John Kerry's national headquarters in Washington DC this afternoon. The Kerry campaign responded by calling the D.C. police to shut down the bake sale.
When the D.C. police arrived they ordered the DC Chapter to shut down the protest in 15 minutes or they would ticket them for occupying a public space without a permit. At that point the police would then disperse them themselves.
Due to the short notice, and the fact that it would be a small group, the DC Chapter did not apply for a permit.
Kristinn is scheduled to appear on Fox News this afternoon for an in-studio interview. The interview should air sometime between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm today. As more details become available, they will posted here.
Kudos to those that attended.
The honor roll is Kristinn, Angelwood, TGSLTakoma, TBP, Trueblackman, and Staytrue.-- snip --
From http://action.moveonpac.org/bakesale/:
On Sat., April 17, all across the country, thousands of people will organize bake sales to raise money for MoveOn PAC's campaign to Take Back the White House. While George Bush raises money mostly from wealthy donors, we will demonstrate the broad-based grassroots support supporting MoveOn PAC and John Kerry.Whether you can organize an event, bake something, or help out selling things, we can use your help. If you create a new bake sale, others may sign up to help. If there is already a bake sale in your neighborhood, you can sign up to help with it, or hold your own.
Click here to schedule a new event.Sell 100 cookies, brownies, or pieces of pie--you're a Pioneer!
If you top 200 items sold, you're a Ranger. And all you have to do is find a place to hold it and some friends to help you bake things.
See--it's a piece of cake!

This is the last chance to reserve your seat at the party for the President by Ohio/West Virginia Freepers. Place: Cherry Valley Lodge, Newark, Ohio (they have a web site). Time: 12:00 Noon-3:00 p.m. April 29th.
We have reserved a private room and the lodge will set up a Deli Buffet for us for $15.95 per person. The catch is, we must have a definite commitment because the lodge will charge us for the number we give them whether they show up or not. Contact me (WVNan) by Freepmail ASAP.
