Levin: Declassify The Other Gorelick Memo
NewsMax.com ^ | 4/16/04 | Carl Limbacher and NewsMax.com Staff

The next shoe to drop in the Gorelick-gate scandal may be a still-classified report on the Millennium bomb plot that faults Gorelick's "wall" of separation between prosecutors and intelligence gatherers for nearly blowing the Millennium Bomb Plot probe.

Writing in National Review Online, Landmark Legal Foundation President Mark Levin notes that the Commission is sitting on a damaging post-Millennium-Plot report that chronicles the impact of Gorelick's terrorist-friendly directive, which Attorney General John Ashcroft alluded to on during his Wednesday testimony.

Dubbed the Millennium After Action Review by the Clinton National Security Council, Ashcroft said the report chronicles how al Qaeda's role in the Millennium plot was nearly missed because Gorelick's guidelines blinded U.S. prosecutors to critical intelligence in the case.

Though a hunch by an alert Washington-state Custom's agent led to the capture of would-be Millennium bomber Ahmed Ressam, when he was turned over to the Justice Department for interrogation, they "didn't have a clue who he was," Ashcroft told the Commission.

It took a French magistrate with full access to his own country's counterterrorism intelligence files to tip U.S. probers to the fact that they had nabbed one of al Qaeda's most dangerous operatives.

Ultimately, because of Gorelick's directive, the French magistrate had to travel to the U.S. and testify for seven hours to lay out Ressam's al Qaeda connection.

Said Levin:

The NSC's Millennium After Action Review — which, based on Attorney General Ashcroft's testimony, must be devastating in its analysis of not only this event but of the Gorelick policy — remains classified. . . .

"Given all the past intelligence information that has been made public by the 9/11 Commission — including the August 6, 2001, President's Daily Brief, which had never before been released — there appears to be no legitimate basis for the 9/11 Commission keeping the Review under lock and key. It's time to release it."

Since we now know her complicity in obstructing information leading to 9/11, I think everything she was involved with should be declassified...and soon...before any conclusions are made by this commission.

Do these people practice in a mirror to perfect their look of contempt? Those looks would get their face slapped off when I was growing up.

If they ever try to tamper with the internet, that will be the issue that unites the rank and file of both political parties. Democrats and Republicans, as well as third party loyalists would rise up so quick, their heads would spin.

If they do anything, it will be in secret in a bill passed at midnight and too late for any of us to do anything by the time we figures it out.

Or, they will stack the search engine companies with people that will support their agendas to suppress the truth.

See? My tinfoil shines brightly in the sunshine ; )

Since you are running Beth's donations, you might run David Gregory, and Terry Moran. I doubt we see any significant surprises. lol

That is exactly how Hastert got the Medicare Prescription Bill passed. I sat at my pc until around 4 a.m. CDT awaiting the few holding and finalizing the vote. That was supposed to be a 15-minute vote period and went on for over 2.5 hours. Yeh, the Pubbies do some dirty stuff too.

I made the suggestion that we appeal to O'Reilly's ego, and get him to host an alternative 9/11 Commission, interviewing guests who were refused an opportunity to testify publicly or even privately before the commission. It sounds like something O'Reilly would love to do.

This article is one of the most comprehensive I've read on the subject. It should be required reading for everyone. Every member of the Commission should have required to read this.

According to an article Rush just read, Jamie Gorelick was quietly asked by Commission Chairman Thomas Kean to resign from the 9/11 commission due to conflict of interest. According to an unnamed staffer, she refused. Should we start a poll on how long she lasts?

"small, petty, vindictive, highly partisan, childish, rude, and deceitful."

Isn't that the name of the law firm that Gorelick is with?

All right, I get why this "wall" that Gorelick put in place was so harmful. I also agree that this is yet another example of how incompetent the Clinton administration was in general.

But if this "wall" was such an obstacle, why didn't the Bush admin remove it?

Flame away, but this is a fair question.
