A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Illustrating the size of Kerry's intelligence, perhaps?

Donald H. Rumsfeld was sworn in as the 21st Secretary of Defense on January 20, 2001. Before assuming his present post, the former Navy pilot had also served as the 13th Secretary of Defense, White House Chief of Staff, U.S. Ambassador to NATO, U.S. Congressman and chief executive officer of two Fortune 500 companies.
(From Defenselink Military Bios)

Standing proud with his boss.

During his business career, Mr. Rumsfeld continued his public service in a variety of Federal posts, including:

· Member of the President's General Advisory Committee on Arms Control (1982 - 1986);
· Special Presidential Envoy on the Law of the Sea Treaty (1982 - 1983);
· Senior Advisor to the President's Panel on Strategic Systems (1983 - 1984);
· Member of the U.S. Joint Advisory Commission on U.S./Japan Relations (1983 - 1984);
· Special Presidential Envoy to the Middle East (1983 - 1984);
· Member of the National Commission on Public Service (1987 - 1990);
· Member of the National Economic Commission (1988 - 1989);
· Member of the Board of Visitors of the National Defense University (1988 - 1992);
· Member of the Commission on U.S./Japan Relations (1989 - 1991); and
· Member of the U.S. Trade Deficit Review Commission (1999 - 2000).

Determined to make his point.

Did you know our Rummy is a poet?
(From Poetry of Donald Rumsfeld):

The Unknown

As we know,
There are known knowns.
There are things we know we know.
We also know
There are known unknowns.
That is to say
We know there are some things
We do not know.
But there are also unknown unknowns,
The ones we don’t know
We don’t know.

—Feb. 12, 2002, Department of Defense news briefing

Or how about:

Happenings

You’re going to be told lots of things.
You get told things every day that don’t happen.

It doesn’t seem to bother people, they don’t —
It’s printed in the press.
The world thinks all these things happen.
They never happened.

Everyone’s so eager to get the story
Before in fact the story’s there
That the world is constantly being fed
Things that haven’t happened.

All I can tell you is,
It hasn’t happened.
It’s going to happen.

—Feb. 28, 2003, Department of Defense briefing

Of course these are parodies of actual quotes, but sometimes when he speaks it has a bit of a poetic ring, no?

It's easy to see his passion when he speaks.

Donald Rumsfeld has served us well as Secretary of Defense. I can't think of anyone more deserving of the title.

Rummy - you are *truly* one of the Finest!

Don't you dare be out of the loop. We're have a "Party for the President" at the Cherry Valley Lodge, April 29th from 12:00 till 3:00. Got perhaps about 20 people committed. I'm hoping that Eric will come with ohio. I'm sending for a party pack, and reservations are in the tube.

Hi Dave. Would you believe that I have never yet had time to view my tapes? This has been one of the busiest two weeks I can recall. Had an unexpected visit from my daughter this week. Plus a meeting every day.

Thanks for the greeting. Hope you see this tomorrow.

One day, just looking around at various things at FR, I saw the page that links old issues of this thread. Anyway, I noticed some state-themed ones, and sure enough there was my Michigan! The link to it is now on my profile page. (thanks to you and Billie) Is that okay? That must take a lot of work to put those together. :-)

I'm copying Mama_Bear to your post because she is the one who puts together the beautiful state-themed threads. I'm sure she is honored to have a link on your page!

Have a great day ((((RTW)))) - if you'd like to be put on our ping list, let one of us know.

Good morning, ride the whirlwind. Welcome to the Finest, hope you'll be back often. Just FYI, here is a link to our latest Hall of Fame thread, which links to every thread we've posted since our debut on June 24, 2002.

Thank you, whirlwind. We normally have one of John Huang's essays every Thursday - always a treat - but his computer is on the blink so he didn't get one to us to post today. We do have a variety of topics each week - as dansy said, we have a regular Military Monday thread every week, and Thursdays are reserved for John's Two Cents, Fridays we post a T.G.I.F. thread that runs through Sunday. Tuesdays and Wednesdays threads may be serious, silly, sweet, pretty, or cute, but always fun. Hope you'll join us often. Let us know if you'd like a ping. :)
