Marines bomb Fallujah mosque

US marines pressing an offensive in this Iraqi town west of Baghdad bombed a mosque in the center of the town Wednesday and killed up to 40 insurgents inside, a marine officer said.

The attack came from a jet aircraft at a high angle to minimize the impact, the officer said.

"We wanted to kill the people inside," said Lieutenant Colonel Brennan Byrne.

The officer, obviously. The reporters just also saw helos supporting Marines on the ground during other parts of the fight, probably, and jumped to a conclusion about where the shot came from.

I've never thought Kerry was going to be the candidate. It'll be Hillary. He's just out there doing the dirty work - he can say whatever he wants, because he's not really going to be accountable for it.

Five Marines had been shot from the mosque before commanders authorized the use of air power and laser-guided missiles against it.

I'll be looking to see if Dan Rather mentions this little fact when he "reports" this tonight. Not likely. Hopefully from now on they will level any mosque upon the first shot.

Not that Im opposed to the bombing the mosque but the palestinians didnt bomb the church of the nativity. They may have used it as their litter box and personal garbage bin but they didnt level the church and they didnt mistreat the priests.

Brett on FoxNews, Pentagon is saying gunfire coming from inside mosques. Troops return fire into mosques.

Apparently, 1 reporter and cameraman weres captured at one location and 'several' captured at another location. Who (which groups) actually did the captures is unknown.

I believe those 150 dead Iraqis are fighting *with* us, not *against* us, in which case 150 dead is tragic. Remember that the coalition is on the side of good Iraqis, and that there are a number of Iraqis fighting *with* us against *bad* Iraqis and other bad people.

I suspect the number of dead *bad* Iraqis is much higher than 150....
