FR DNS problems...
today

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

I'm glad I finally stumbled back in. I had the link saved on my favorites and when I clicked on it I got nothing. So I put plain www.freerepublic.com/ into my URL and then some page came up that had three links to Free Republic. The first two that I clicked on didn't work but the third, a thread about LOTRs did. So here I am. Don't know nothing about hosts and stuff like that.

I met a great man via "cyber" & eventually met him & his wife when they were in Cleveland... I found him at the Free Dominion site.. they (in canada) are so frustrated with their govt & really support GWB & the war ... what a breath of fresh air that was to find them..
I enjoy so much Ontario & when the PM came out strongly ANTI war I was heart sick. I gave away all my French wine & stopped using L'Oreal (which I have used for decades) and thought OH NO,,,, can't give up canada! but was reassured that there were MANY canadians who support us & our cause.
hurrah. No visits to France & germany.. but more to Canada & eventually Great Brittan & Australia.. good allies & friends of freedom & liberty

That's okay, I hear very little about Australia's politics (more in the past 5 years but still very little).
Next time Jimmy Carter talks about nuclear weapons, just keep your ears pealed. He still talks politics in America even though he last served in office back in January 1980!

We may have an FR fight going on, but in that case I demand than Peutunia show up and BobJ be the referee. Bob is honest if you bribe him enough. And Billie has to play the piano while the fight's going on.I have invited Petunia, but as you know, nocojones, ma'am, she divorced BTA's nephew, Sir X%^&* Blusterbutt some years ago so her feelings for losing all that money she put into Babe in the City has made her just a bit crotchety around those blokes whose toilets flush backwards.
For my part I love a good fight and would be especially grateful if Billie could provide me with another rendition of All my exes live in texas just for old timer's sake since I am on the iBook and the sound system for my .wav file is the pits.
For the record? I tried to bribe BobJ one time and his reply was "Who are you?, crushing my spirit and causing me to become just another dumb democrat. And I don't know this steveggg person but did take his advice on the mac link which workadead fine since I'm cheer.

If you think you were going nuts, think of how the moby dicks were feeling. Maybe they thought that FR had succeeded in banning their ISPs from connect to Free Republic.
The viking kitties got a much needed nap.

Well, thanks to the message from Yahoo! FR I finally got in. Thirteen hours without FR, although I must confess that most of that time was spent at work and on the train.

Thanks Steveegg,
Also, not sure if this is all that important, but a Google search on "Free Republic is down" turned up some nonsense threads speculating on reasons for the problems with DNS, etc.
Unfortunately at this moment I'm on a computer with firewalls blocking my ability to respond to the disinformation on those ridiculous threads.
Kent, I have pinged you because one of the threads is from a Seattle based newsgroup. Perhaps you could shine some light for those who seem to be wallowing in ignorance on a few of those threads. Then again - why waste the keystrokes.

I don't know what it says now. I just clicked around once I got on the LOTRs thread and got on the home page. I read the info on the top of the page and it stated to use the address that you stated.
