FR DNS problems...
today

DNS lookups failing for FR here - no such host. Apparently I'm not the only one, judging from a glance at the Yahoo FR board. Dunno if it's my ISP (Verizon) or what, but I had to manually edit the hosts file to get here. Presumably, if you can post, you're not having this problem, but there are more than a few people who can't post right now because of it...

Funny but right before I tried the site this morning (and couldn't get on, I went right over there to find out why.
Apparently, they were apoplectic that Freepers were calling the 911 Commission about something, and linked the url. They even called the 911 Commission and said they were being lobbied by a conservative group. I don't know what the issue was.
No, I don't think it is a coincidence, and Denial Of Service is a very serious charge. Also, selective enforcement isn't very popular, as Rush Limbaugh is successfully proving.
I better see some other GKG sites going down soon.

Somebody filed a complaint with ICANN. I don't know who it is, but I bet I can tell you how they voted for president. .Oh great, this one IS a conspiracy! :-)

I will never take this site for granted ever!
This morning around 5 a.m. Pacific I logged on and read a few posts and then signed off thinking I would be back later to finish my reading for the day - interested especially in the continuing 9/11 hearings.
When I couldn't get on I started trying every hour until some nice person on FreeDominion gave me a back door in.
To be honest, I spent my day curled in the fetal position wondering if I had lost FR forever!!! lol
Thankfully NOT!

I can't even use the links you posted, I get the same "server can't be found" flag. Wow, this is weird!

Substitute 209.157.64.200 for www.freerepublic.com and they'll come right up. ICANN is dragging their "brains" on this one (little surprise).

Not sure whom to ask what might be a dumb question: when I go offline, should I first log out here? It took awhile to get in here today. Thanks in advance.

Could not get in until 6:51 EST.
I kept trying and finally got in on my old bookmark. I did have to log-in again.
Thought we got hacked!

If it was someone making a technical complaint. Who made the complaint?

Thanks so much, I am afraid that once I get off, I can't get back on, so I copied your post and saved it!

Just for the record, I was unable to get to Free Republic starting around 8 this morning until a few minutes ago, around 3:45 pm PST.
Of course I could not find my notes about alternate ways to get in or to go to Yahoo groups, so it's been withdrawal time all day today. I hate it when that happens.

When I couldn't connect, I did a Google advanced group search on "Free Republic" (date-limiting it to today) and there was one news group posting with a URL that had the raw IP address.
Just in time to avoid withdrawal symptoms...

Not sure whom to ask what might be a dumb question: when I go offline, should I first log out here? It took awhile to get in here today. Thanks in advance. That's entirely up to you. I don't see the IP address (the 209.157... part) changing, so it should be no harm in keeping yourself logged in.
As a side note, if you didn't log out the last time you were able to use freerepublic.com as the address, once it comes back up, you should still be logged in.

John, thanks so much for taking care of everything today. I was crushed when I set up my desktop at work this morning and couldn't get in. Then when I could get in using the IP address, I couldn't log on. I was tormenting myself thinking I had changed my password to something I couldn't remember.
John, seriously though, if this is a sign of what the next few months may be like, I'm hoping you are able to resolve things easily. Seems as if the rats realize the influence FR has. </tinfoil>
Someone might want to tell people that they should try to log in now that John made that change so that one can accept cookies. Once I couldn't log on, I stopped trying for a few hours.

No problems for me in North Texas. Haven't been any all day. Let me guess; you never closed your browser (which makes you smarter than me).
