How strange is that?

You should see their heads spin around when I state that I'm a true liberal (believing in the rights of the individual), and they're just leftist fascists.

I never hated Clinton. I felt robbed that someone with so much potential could have failed so miserably.

What do you mean failed? Clinton was a resounding success.

He became President; scored lots of chicks; became wealthy, powerful, and popular.

Everything he wanted to accomplish, he did.

A few weeks back, Beb Stein, (he recently had a quiz show on TV about "Winning Ben Stein's Money"), was on Chris Matthew's TV show "Softball to Liberals."

Ben Stein said (as best as I can remember) to Chris: "Most democrats have an infantile mentality. They are opposed to authority figures, just as an infant child is somettimes opposed to his Father. democrats with an infantile mentality are opposed to leaders who act with authority in Government and in large Corporations."

Ben's observation seemed to accurately describe much of the vocal Holywood Left, as well as some ex-governors such as "give-'em-hell" Howard Dean.

Curiously, democrats and liberals love to control, and be controlled. Dick Armey said it best: "Liberals don't care what you do, just as long as they can control it."

Going back to Ben Stein's observation, maybe the democrats are ambivalant on President Bush: they hate (infantile mentality), AND love him (especially the way he controls the War effort) at the same time. The only way that they can express themselves then is to throw a temper-tantrum!

I hate Clinton and I'm not afraid to say so. He deserved it; to me it's clear the scum he was just by looking at him, and highly coincidental about all these nasty things swirling around him - Commie links, sex scandals, dead people......sorry, but he merits hatred from what I can see. There are such people that exist, and to me he's 1 of them.

No, it's not just cuz he's a Democrat. He's the only 1 so far (alive in my time) that I can think of really "hating". (Well, I guess we have to include Hillary in there, too.) I don't like alot of them, but none stirred me up like Clinton.

That was the one I was thinking of. That and, "If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you."

Two reasons:

1. Leadership

2. Humility.

True, SOME hated Reagan, but there were lots who didn't. Many lefties from what I recall simply didn't like his politics. But then there were some who were drawn to him and even if they never got to vote for him (my best friend being 1 - we were teens then), they sort of felt in the end like they would. My best friend (being raised Democrat) said she was sad to see him go - that he made her feel good about being American! Shock! I guess eventually the "flag-waving" gets to you! (LOL)

I think frankly I've seen more real hatred for Reagan *since* he left office - perhaps it was a retro-reaction to our hatred for Clinton...

There has to be a metaphysical basis for morality

Reality is the metaphysical basis for values guiding human choices and actions.

I think I could find myself hating Kerry if he wins. His contempt for the right simply shines through. His contempt for the military - for his own protectors (ss) - is nearly incomprehensible. He seems like he's out to destroy good things, to target people and tear them down.

Do you forget the Clintons nefarious activities in our White House? There are SO many that there's too many to mention here.

Do you forget that the Clintons cared far more about themselves and their personal power then they cared about the security and future of America?

I'll NEVER FORGET!

"I am wondering more about why the grass roots people hate him, not the ones seeking power."

First, a disclaimer: I do not hate President Bush.

Having said that, I think a lot of "grass roots people" see Bush as doing more to strengthen, centralize and empower government than he is doing to spread "freedom and democracy".

If "grass roots" people live to see a day when America has finally won the War on Terrorism, history teaches that all these government agencies being created and granted far-reaching powers will act like government agencies always have and not dissolve or roll themselves back to pre-war levels. Instead, they will continue to grow and exercise more of the powers they were given when a supposedly "clear and present" danger existed.

Tax Freedom Day in America is now around the first week in June; that means "grass roots" people work to pay the costs of government up until that day, and only afterward do they start working for themselves, their families and their communities. Some quick mental math proves that "grass roots" people now give 50 percent of the fruits of their labor to government.

If a warlord or communist dictator kicked in your door and looted half of everything in your house, and you had no power to get it back because the warlord or dictator had more guns, jails and friendly judges than you did, that would be slavery. So when America congratulates itself for bringing "freedom" to other parts of the world, while stealing half the productivity of its own people, I can see how others would accuse us of hypocrisy.

Also, democracy when stripped of its flowery connotations means mob rule. Man "grass roots" people grew up pledging (and still do at public, sports events) allegiance to a republic, not a democracy. Many "grass roots" people find themselves subjected more and more on a daily basis to the open hostility and intolerance (what's the word? discrimination!) of strangers who are from different racial, ethnic and religious groups than theirs.

President Bush seems to believe -- through open borders, amnesty and out-sourcing of jobs -- in bringing about a country that resembles the one described, so the president would seem to be championing a policy that will eventually result in the destruction of "grass roots" people. Since most humans do not wish for their own annihilation, I can see how some "grass roots people" would think Bush their enemy, even though he is the Commander-In-Chief.

If a "grass roots" person came up to me and said "I hate Bush!", those are some thoughts that might be going through his head.

I was trying to roughly delineate between the physical world, rocks, air, water, etc., and the spiritual world - if there is one. The spiritual world - call it heaven or hell, whatever - is invisible, and possibly non-existant. The real world, well, I just ate a little bit of it a few minutes ago and washed it down with a Coke. I'd say you are right that reality is the metaphysical basis for everything, not just values. It is a tautology. It is because it is. The question is, what is it? Where's Clinton when you need him?

I supported the war in Kosovo. I thought we should have used ground troops, though. As mentioned I thought he was an embarassment, but rather then get mad and throw the baby out with the bath water, I try to keep things in perspective. That perspective is the ONLY thing which led me away from the left and placed me squarely behind GWB in the war on terror, as well as other things.

If the internet had been around during Reagan's time, he would have been talked about the exact same way. Nowadays people can go online and find individuals as deeply hate-filled as they are. Back then, liberals had to, for the most part, keep their massive condescension and outright hatred to themselves.

Now that we have the Internet, I am all the more shocked by how tasteless, mean and cruel these "loving, caring" liberals are. Forget the group; look at individuals who make it up.

In the time I've been on the Internet, I've been on many discussion forums (all types, special interest as well as general chat more like this). What do I find?

Spontaneous, unprovoked statements/threads started by some liberal who can't contain their glee over some1's misfortune.

On a history thread, some1 on the current events end or whatever had to start a thread: "maybe this sounds bad, but I can't help but be gleeful hearing about Rush's hearing problem!"

And on a nostalgia site, some1 quips not about feeling bad for Charlton Heston (as any1) having Alzheimer's start, but worrying merely "oh great, a dude w/Alzheimer's is running a gun-nut club". Similar things we know have popped up about Reagan, of course.

Again on the nostalgia site (and this very recent), a spontaneous thread about what an ugly, transvestite-like BITCH Margaret Thatcher was. Nope, not even any commentary about her policies, just personal invective - and tons of others joining in! It took a few posts before some1 mentioned how they hated her policies. (I wrote what I thought of those sots and their pathetic nasty-mean posts [esp. the irony coming from these caring, feel-good softies] - that pretty much killed it!)

They could not stand Reagan. But after Carter's hate-filled election and demoralizing presidency it was hard for them to debate the return of the American spirit.
