Get Yer Ya-Yas Out [FR Moderating Gripe Thread]

[history]
LM here.
It's been a while since we had a thread along these lines.
I can tell from comments I am seeing in threads, on abuse reports, and in Freepmail that some people are unhappy with various policies and their implementations by the staff here.
I've seen allegations that certain factions are picked on. I've seen allegations that the moderators have killed activism. I've heard rumors that we killed Kenny, and even that we killed the radio star. I see certain personality conflicts acting up, and know that one (or both) sides in it feel that we aren't doing what we should.
So let's open this can of worms.
This thread is for making your grievances heard. If you think something stinks or is wrong, make your case here. Back it up with facts. Let the audience at large weigh in on your evidence.
I'll read the thread. Jim will too in all likelihood. So will the other moderators. Depending upon how well you make your point, and depending on if you can convince Jim, me, the other moderators, and/or the world, maybe you can change things. And if you don't, then it might make you feel better to have vented, so it won't make this thread a total loss.
I'm not going to reply to this thread for quite a while. Rather, I am going to sit back and watch to try and get a feel for the general tenor. I encourage those who are both happy and unhappy with things to particpate in this thread.
Let's rock.

Thanks for taking the time to ask. I really enjoy FR, have no gripes. It has been a haven for me since I've been unemployed, however since I started a new job last week, I won't get to spend as much time here as usual.....:)
I just urge all FReepers to treat each other with respect, and although we may disagree on the small stuff, at the end of the day...we should be thankful to have this forum to express our thoughts. I know I am.

If you are not a mod, why are you performing a moderator role?
I am sooooo confused!
To: YaYa123
I resent the headline! You would have preferred the word "Off" instead of "Out"?

Is this a test to see if there are any malcontents you've missed?

If anything it's too dull, not enough real debate. All the flaming is done by the bots on each side of the issue who aren't going to listen to the other side anyway.

Perhaps more troll-threads should be deleted outright, instead of zotted, until the Election's over? Some trolls simply want to disrupt, and clearly don't care if they're banned. Meanwhile, important threads get diluted in the 'Latest' windows while the rest of us practise our insults on someone who's not even paying attention.

Thank you for keeping the Breaking News bar current today.
By looking at the older threads posted on Breaking News, it seems that yesterday the same story about 'Socialists win in Spain' was posted several times in Breaking News.
I appreciate it when you guys cleanup the Breaking News abuses.

Where have all the trolls gone, dammit?:)

So, thanks for this opportunity.
I think FR would be a better off debating conservatives that are evaluating possibilities other than GW Bush.
Winning that debate on the merits would yield (earn?) Bush votes in November. Banning or deriding fellow conservatives that rightfully question Bush's actions serves only to alienate these conservative voters. (Scalia and Thomas agree that the CFR law Bush signed was an abomination.)
So, banning the likes of OWK, and stifling/banning posters that may favor the constitution party candidate both diminishes the value of this forum as a free marketplace of ideas, and drives conservatives away from the republican party.
The basic question is this: Is FR a republican site, or a conservative, anti-corruption in government site?
Thanks for asking,

I do have a small gripe. Why are Mr Silverback's caption-a-rama threads thrown to chat where i can't see them. I think they at least qualify as extended news.

Occasionally, I see a full-text post from a source like LAT/WP that should be excerpted and hit the abuse button to alert the moderators - and no action is taken.
A few hours later, if the post has not been edited to conform to the guidelines, I have to bug Jim about it.
There has got to be a better way. The abuse button should have a way to categorize the nature of the complaint, and certain categories (e.g. full text posting from LAT/WP) should get a higher priority for moderator attention.
