Jack Ryan is a conservative who understands trade. He's going to be the GOP nominee for US Senate in Illinois, and might just pull off a win!

Jack Ryan supports closing the "loophole" that allows private citizens to sell firearms
On gun control, Ryan said he generally doesn't favor more laws. But he said he supports closing the so-called "gun show loophole" if background checks could be done instantly. And Ryan said he'd be willing to revisit the federal ban on assault weapons.
Jack Ryan supports closing the "loophole" that allows firearm manufacturers to "get around" the "assault weapons" ban
"I'll be totally open in considering that, if it focuses on the function of the weapon," Ryan said. "If it focuses on how fast does it shoot, what kind of ammunition does it shoot - that I think is good legislation. If it's like, what does the gun look like, it's too easy to get around that stuff."

I talked Monday with GOP front-runner Ryan (no relation to that former governor) and asked him to explain how his free-market ideology will create jobs in the Rock River Valley that pay enough to feed, clothe and house families. "Free market" - translating...not trade with countries we have free trade treaties with, but "free" transfer of assets and jobs to protectionist countries like India and China.
The lies continue, getting bigger and bigger...

Those are the policies that started the Great Depression. We dont want to go there again, Ryan said.By regurgitating this revisionist propaganda, Ryan destroys any credibility he may have had.

Jack Ryan -- remember the name. If he's elected, he will rise faster in the GOP than anyone you can remember. He will be a candidate in 2008 for the presidency.

" 'Those are the policies that started the Great Depression. We dont want to go there again,' Ryan said." Sorry, but that's just flat out wrong. That's the old "Smoot-Hawley" canard, which has been disproven about a thousand times now, but that doesn't keep the free trade uber alles crowd from repeating it over and over again!
If you want a real education about the actual causes of the Great Depression, just google up the phrase "great myths of the great depression", which is an article posted at the mackinac institute, and written by Lawrence W. Reed.
I am just so tired of the same old "Smoot-Hawley" argument being hauled out time and time again. It is wrong, and it needs to be done away with forever. It's the economic equivalent of claiming the world is flat, it's just utter nonsense.

Jack Ryan is a conservative who understands trade. He's going to be the GOP nominee for US Senate in Illinois, and might just pull off a win!Jack Ryan may be a conservative and he may understand trade but there is nothing in this artricle that shows that he understands the current trade envirornment. Further he does not understand how trade related to the Great Depression if he was accurately quoted.

Let's not let Johnny have all the fun!
Ryan is not the best candidate for our Conservative position. He is a moderate vote getter. At minimum, we should make sure he gets such a close margin of victory to the real Conservative in this race, that he acknowledges our presence, our patience, our ability to get votes, our more powerful vision. He should hear us.
Vote Rauschenberger! (geez - will the spellchecker catch that one?)

It's been nice to hear conservative commercials on the radio from the Republican candidates. After the last election, I was wondering if we would ever hear a conservative make his views known.
