On gun control, Ryan said he generally doesn't favor more laws. But he said he supports closing the so-called "gun show loophole" if background checks could be done instantly. And Ryan said he'd be willing to revisit the federal ban on assault weapons.
"I'll be totally open in considering that, if it focuses on the function of the weapon," Ryan said. "If it focuses on how fast does it shoot, what kind of ammunition does it shoot - that I think is good legislation. If it's like, what does the gun look like, it's too easy to get around that stuff."
