Updated: 4:01 p.m. ET March 05, 2004 NEW YORK - Martha Stewart was convicted Friday of obstructing justice and lying to the government about a superbly timed stock sale, a devastating verdict that probably means prison for the woman who epitomizes meticulous homemaking and gracious living. In a statement, Stewart said she would appeal the verdict.

Milken, Boesky, Bacanovic, etal... They never learn.
Another democrat criminal bites the dust. Stewart, whose net worth is stratospheric, was too cheap and too arrogant to take a paltry $50K loss. It wasn't even chump change for her but, like Leona Helmsley, she just had to be different and better than "the little people" who are held to the law.

Now, on to Hillary and her cattle futures. . . .
In my dreams.
To: Bonaparte
oops I guess no more Stewart on Food Channel from her kitchen.
(Yes, I know -- gmoore already posted this news. A search before posting, under "Stewart," turned up nothing.)

In my dreams, too. Sigh.
To: Bonaparte
Ah, well. I think she was railroaded. But I can't say I like her very much.
I presume she will appeal.

The Hildebeast was at least smart enough to get her ducks in a row, not only on the futures trade, but on White Water, the FBI files, Travelgate and all her other crimes. Stewart, OTOH, is not cut out for a career in crime. She should have stuck with her day job.

"I think she was railroaded."Prosecution proved that she knowingly and repeatedly lied to the FBI about her trade. Why would an innocent person, who has nothing to cover up, do that? Why did Bacanovic go back and doctor the trade documents (as proven by Secret Service forensics) if he and Stewart had nothing to hide?

I wonder if her sentence will be as easy as Bill Clinton's?

Ah, well. I think she was railroaded. But I can't say I like her very much. I agree. The person who was at fault was her broker, who had no business telling Martha of any insider information. In a way it is kind of like entrapment. Martha did not go out looking for insider information, it was placed in her lap by her broker.

I doubt it. He didn't even have to stand trial.
To: Always Right
No one held a gun to her head and forced her to act on it.

"Martha did not go out looking for insider information, it was placed in her lap by her broker."Ah, Martha "Geraldine" Stewart. The Devil made her do it.

BTW, who "made" Martha Stewart lie repeatedly to the FBI?

"oops I guess no more Stewart on Food Channel from her kitchen."Hahaha! Well, if Mumia can give keynote commencement speeches from his prison cell, I guess Martha can show us how to arrange dinner placemats from hers.

If this were 'Joe Average', I might consider some liency, however Martha Stewart is hardly an average person when it comes to trading. Martha Stewart was a licensed broker for over 20 years. Prior to appearing in public to face charges, she resigned her seat on the NYSE. Not only did she know better, she was in a position where getting insider information was a daily occurance; and knew she was legally and morally obligated to ignore it when it came to trading.
Martha was very foolish, she KNEW what she was doing was illegal, thus began covering her tracks immediately - even before the formal charges were made. This may only be the first time she's been caught; if you are willing to assume a person who did indeed do this (and had her day in court) NEVER contimplated doing the exact same thing for over 20 years. There is a distinct liklihood that this is just the first time she's been caught.

She almost certainly did for others what Bocanovic did for her. When their appeals are exhausted, perhaps even before sentencing, one of them, probably Bocanovic, may roll over on the government tipster.
To: Bonaparte
And if she had just held on or sold legally and invested in Genetech, she'd be ok and even richer.
Greed, hubris, ego and narcissism will get you everytime.

Bullsh*t.
8 of 10 Freepers would have done the same thing under her same circumstances.
PS: And the other 2 Freepers are liars.

And another thing -- this would be a good time for the SEC to thoroughly review the patterns in her trading behavior during the years she was working as a broker for others. (I know: Ain't gonna happen).
