Depending on what you plan on using it for, you might be able to find a used 870 at a pawn shot for not very much.

They passed a clean version last April, so it goes to conference.

Technically, this is a Senate bill or resolution being debated. I'm not sure how this particular piece of legislation can go to conference without having passed the other body.

What now?

Now the House GOP cuts the nonsense out and the spineless Senate 'pubbies cave to them just like they caved to the Dems in their own chamber.

I agree--we are screwed. What I do not understand is this:

Everyone (and I mean everyone--Dims, Republicans, even Klinton!) know that it was the "Assault Weapons" ban that gave the Congress to the GOP after 40 years in the minority!

Is the GOP and the WH really that stupid?

Conveniently Forgetting Recent events, Dr. Pangloss?

CFR inspired -NOTHING- like the grassroots level disdain that the AWB does.

Constant comparisons to CFR are misleading for many reasons, but ultimately it's impact was, and remains for the most part, totally uncertain.

AWB by comparison is a photon torpedo aimed directly at voting gun owners.

No, it's not. And I hope we don't end up there. But I have some doubts.

>>The more people see, the less they like.

Apart from the local media love fest, Bush would be well advised to put some money in MA or even a campaign event, as my take is that Kerry's support is surprisingly shallow here. Well, not really surprising, but worthwhile for Bush to mess up the heads of the Dems ala his Dad in the Harbor in 1988.

Chris,

I sure hope you are right buddy. Listen, I am not going to bash Bush and the GOP---I just cannot believe they are flirting this close to political disaster.

No wonder the RINO isn't running for re-election...because he would lose in a landslide

You oughtta know better than that about Fitzgerald. He takes some odd positions, but he's a hard right conservative with an independent streak. I guess you could consider following ones principles rather than party "in name only", but he's both a social and fiscal conservative.

Folks like yourself are to the GOP what the Clintonistas were to the Democrats; just an ugly stain. You're an amen corner that deems it politically sophisticated to elevate your lack of principle into your highest principle. To whatever extent your type gains sway over the GOP, the Republican Party will simply become an inverse reflection of the unscrupulous Democrats.

You got a way with words Saber. I've seen that attitude from the party "faithful" since CFR and I'm damn sick of it.

Done. Called mine (Cant(do)well, Osama-Mama Murray, WA), not that it's going to do any good. These broads vote for what's in THEIR best interest and the greater Seattle area, Constitutional rights and the rest of Washington state be damned.

I am SO PISSED today. And the 'assult weapon' mythos is perpetuated.... I REALLY hope the House steps in and cleans this thing up; that or the President refuses to sign an unclean version of what he wanted.
I'm not a one-issue conservative, but this REALLY pisses me off.

"I will no longer vote for ANY Republican as long as I live. I am DONE with this party. You don't let this crap pass at all! You don't say, "oh we'll take care of it in conference" because it will pass and Bush will sign it. I only hope enough of us stick together to wipe the Republicans out of power for the next 10000 years. It was the GUN vote that gave the Republicans ANYTHING AT ALL -THOSE MUTHER F'ING INGRATES!!!"

You are correct. It's not the individuals who need to be bannished to the political wilderness, it's the Republican Party - only if the AWB exists in ANY form in November.

This is truely sausage makin' at it's best. If you are looking for pure sausage, it does not exist (unless Christ makes it, likely out of Elk back strap w/bacon fat).

So, wait until November and see if the AWB exists.

How can you POSSIBLY saying this is dead?

1. Tom DeLay, who effectively runs the House, says it's dead (the AWB part).

2. Karl Rove, who manages GWB's politics, says it's dead too.

What more do you want?

CFR has proven to be pro conservative, yes?

Clearly you haven't taken into consideration the most powerful and influential special interest group out there- the print and television media. You and I, and any 'special interest' group can not make a political ad X many days before an election, yet the media can continue to spin its bias to achieve a desire political outcome? And where exactly do conservatives benefit from this?

All of us lose. The idea that we, as citizens, have free speech rights guaranteed by the first amendment but can't express those views before an election is a travesty- one that Congress and President Bush approved. CFR was a huge mistake, one that I believe many Republican politicians will realize this summer and fall.
