We'll be happy to hand you a tissue as long as you share!

I soothed all my friends way back after the awards for Fellowship that they would never award the first two films with the BIG awards. They couldn't afford to have these movies dominate awards three years running. I promised that after RoTK they would reward the whole work.

I am in fact counting on it tonight! Very high expectations!

Well, the commander that was represented in the movie ("Tavington" was pretty obviously Banastre Tarleton) did, in fact, execute American prisoners, as shown in the movie. It was known mockingly as "Tarleton's Quarter" to Americans (no quarter.)

But there was nothing so spectacularly egregious as the mass organized murder of civilians.

On the other hand, there was a lot of tremendously ugly stuff done by rebels against loyalist families and their property.

One thing that annoyed me about The Patriot is that the actual battle of Cowpens was more interesting than the battle at the end of the movie; Cowpens was a work of tactical genius, a double envelopment like Hannibal at Cannae, and they didn't show the double envelopment.

Go away. (I sure wish FR had that bozo button Jim's been promising to put in).

Post abuse button works.

Why watch it at all? You love LOTR. I love LOTR. Why do we give a rat's behind whether Hollywood likes it? If they diss it, what's it to us? Over the past few decades they've already shown that their heads are somewhere between their pancreas and their recta :^)

The only way to get them to understand our displeasure is to NOT watch them, to NOT rent movies, to NOT buy tickets -- to avoid any way of putting more money in their pockets. What was that saying? "Selling them the rope with which they'll hang us?"

This Belleville song is cool.

So's the movie. Strong rec to all to go see The Triplets of Belleville. Completely bizarre, will leave you stunned at times, good tunes, fascinating animation - a good time.

And I learned the most efficient way to gather frogs.

Hmm, I just spent yesterday with 10 Marines, all of whom were looking forward to seeing LOTR win big tonight. Ya wanna try saying that to their faces?

Q: What is the difference between a butch Marine and a regular Marine?

I'm afraid to post the punchline, as children may be in the room...

That is Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara

Ya I know... that's why it's impressive. I remember them from SCTV. Count Floyd, Great White North... etc.

I don't remember the British doing anything like burning folks up inside churches, as was shown in the Patriot...did such things happen?

No.

I'm not sure if the film is elligible. While Mel did not lock the print until this year, he spent a good part of last year publicly screening the film (AintItCoolNews fans paid to see the movie in December even though they were unaware what films would be screened). This is not a dig at the movie. I honestly don't think Mel cares if the Academy acknowledges his film or not. We know what the Academy has stood for these past 20 years.

Funny you would know all that information. Interesting. Thanks for giving me that insight, WeeGee. It seems I'm learning more at FR everyday thanks to people like you!

Howdy Hair!

LOTR is sure to win big tonight. I am holding out for something nice for Master and Commander (already got sound editing I believe) but will be happy that ROTK got the recognition it deserves.
