February 24, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - The Pentagon has dispatched the elite commando force that hunted down Saddam Hussein to Afghanistan for a new operation aimed at getting Osama bin Laden, officials said yesterday. Military sources confirmed that members of the shadowy Task Force 121, the unit that conducted the high-tech search for Saddam and his henchmen, have recently begun operating in the remote mountainous region along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where bin Laden and key al Qaeda and Taliban fugitives are believed to be hiding. The Task Force is made up of highly trained Delta and SEAL commandos, as well as CIA paramilitary operators. It operates outside normal military channels.

'We Will Not Be Afraid. We Will Be Ready'
February 19, 2003
By KOMO Staff & News Services
"We will not be afraid. We will be ready," said Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, who traveled to Cincinnati to announce the program and meet with safety and emergency workers at the local Red Cross. "Make a kit! Have a plan! Get informed!" he said.
Officials said they crafted the campaign to avoid scaring people while providing some commonsense ideas that will help families find and care for each other when normal government and emergency services aren't available.
One billboard will be going up in Times Square in New York City later this month.
The Martin Agency, an advertising firm in Richmond, Va., developed the multimedia campaign pro bono, according to Homeland Security officials.

..but the suicidal attitude does not represent the majority of us and does not represent "a fair number of us", either. At one time I was eliminated on a job bid because the evaluators decided I was too bubbly, optimistic and positive for the position. Now that's a downer! I have never seen depression on FR - in fact, quite the opposite is true. We do, however, face everyday reality.

The Basque terrorist organization ETA and bin Laden's al-Qaeda cells have joined forces. Their shared goal: to organize and carry out an attack on the EU meeting scheduled for March 2002 in Barcelona

Daleel's IP was traced to Sharjah University in the United Arab Emirates. However, that doesn't mean he's Arab - they have a significant number of instructors and professors from throughout the world at Sharjah University. Many of these are Muslims from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Eastern Europe. Much of the instruction is in English, I believe.
So while he is almost certainly a Muslim I'm not convinced he's Arab.

Senator: Report on Iraq Intelligence 'Damning' Fri Mar 12, 2004 03:14 PM ET
By Tabassum Zakaria WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee report about prewar intelligence on Iraq will be "tough and damning" and spread the blame around, a senior Republican senator said on Friday.
"It will be damning of some of the intelligence. I think it's going to be highly critical, it will be critical of a lot of different programs and people," said Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona, third-ranking in the Senate Republican leadership.
The blame spreads over Democratic and Republican administrations, intelligence agencies and Congress, he said. "Nobody is without blame."
The report is expected to be issued this spring, possibly in April.

LONDON Western intelligence sources believe Al Qaida employed insurgents from North Africa for the train bombings in Spain that killed about 200 people.
The sources said Spanish and other European intelligence and security agencies believe that sleeper cells established by Al Qaida-aligned groups helped designate the targets and provide logistics and safe haven for operatives who detonated 10 backpack bombs aboard commuter trains in Madrid on Thursday. The cells were established by organizations that stem from Algeria and Morocco and employed local insurgency operatives, including Basque separatists.

Presidential candidate Nikolai Kharitonov is a former KGB officer, an admirer of Soviet secret police founder Felix Dzerzhinsky and fiercely proud of Russia's communist past.
Still, the 55-year-old Communist Party candidate insists his long-shot bid to defeat incumbent President Vladimir Putin in Sunday's election is a tad ahead of its time.
