THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST.. (A HIT OR A MISS?).. Live thread!Contrary to popular media pronouncements, the first of the commercial showing of this long awaited, landmark, and controversial film has already debuted and the misconceptions that the fate of this endeavor hangs in the balance.. That is HOGWASH.. The Passion of the Christ is on the brink of a record breaking opening, in spite of the limited available screens, and the all out, and outragous efforts on the part of the National Media's near unanimous rejection, and the Hollywood establishment roadblocks to stymie this motion picture and it's brilliant and courageous director/producer..
I just receive a call from friends that attended a church sponsored midday showing of the movie with more than 850 of their fellow flock. The collective response was "it was sobering and breathtaking, and they existed with a profound feeling of moral inadequacy".
I toyed with the idea of accepting an invitation to book a private showing at a local theater for this weekend, however after calling a few local churches to help fill the seats I discovered that all (I call 12) of the parishes and neighborhood churches had already secured their own private dates with sellout crowds.. Every one of them had sold the seats within a day of their announcements... I just may book a threater in three weeks for all of my friends and family, that wish to watch it again, and again..

Lighten up. Work for the unification of all Christians. You can debate Mary on a relevant thread, and in a relevant and respectful manner. Catholics are your brothers and sisters, treat them with respect.

Silly boy.
I've been trying to think of what to give up.

There's a joke in there somewhere.

I...don't...even...know...where to begin. You claim to be a former Catholic, but judging by what you posted, you actually know nothing about the religion.
It's funny how everyone else was "tricked," -- including you, I suppose, since you used to be a Catholic -- yet you escaped.
Of course, we can't let you live now -- YOU KNOW THE TRUTH ABOUT US!
To: chicagolady
Oh, how does the movie end?
Jesus 1
Satan 0
God Wins!!!
Hey! No spoilers! ;-)
To: I got the rope
Actually, Mary was "assumed" into heaven, meaning it was not by her own power. Only Jesus "ascended" into Heaven, which is what we say every Sunday during the Creed. We do know the difference and we've never said otherwise.
To: mercy
Such hatred spewing forth from you, directed toward the
Mother of Christ! The fourth commandment tells us to honor our father and mother, yet you call Jesus' mother an
abomination? I don't know WHAT religion you belong to, but it certainly isn't Christian.
To: sfRummygirl
You are welcome, and thank YOU.

Good thoughts Dolly. I hope that what can occur on FR and elsewhere regarding this film is constructive discussion, thoughtful consideration and
hopefully, finding of common ground or at least better understanding of one another others beliefs.

I've been trying to think of what to give up. Sigh.
The Orthodox don't have to "decide what to 'give up' "

Damn disheartening to see this thread dissolve into a Prod-Catholic catfight. SSDD
My experience with Operation Rescue in the 80's taught me that when CHristians get serious about walking the walk (going to jail) the catfights just don't happen.

I can't believe all the reactions of the Hollywood hypocrites and liberals. Mel's movie sure has turned out to be quite a burr under the saddle to them. I thought we Christan's were just a bunch of backward simpletons why all the hysterics from the left? I find their complaining to be quite interesting/amusing.
I'm looking forward to the movie, though, I know to bring lots of tissue.
